We are only beginning to use our materials as we have only been in school for 14 days. My students were so excited to see new materials to work with and to have new ways to demonstrate their thinking through hands-on learning.\r\nWe have just begun to work on these lessons this year. My second graders are working on learning other ways to model their understanding of place value. They are great with using the base ten blocks to show their thinking, but struggle to generalize this thinking to other objects. So we are working on learning that a group of 10 objects (popsicle sticks and toothpicks) are the same as a ten block.\r\nMy first graders are beginning to learn what place value is. They are working on learning the base ten blocks and how to then read or write the numbers based on what they modeled with their blocks. My Kindergarteners are being introduced to the blocks through daily counting of how many days we have been in school, adding a new block and stick, and making switches to groups of ten sticks and ten blocks.","fullyFundedDate":1747847936083,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-place-value-kit-for-young-mathe/9225345/","projectTitle":"Hands on Place Value Kit for Young Mathematicians","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Doizaki","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9250492_orig.jpg?crop=894,894,x0,y107&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745590382053","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9250492"},{"teacherId":8894607,"projectId":9293597,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous gift of supply organizers for our first-grade classroom! Your generosity has brought so much joy and has made a truly significant impact on our students' daily learning experiences.\r\n\r\nFor first graders, these aren't just art supplies; they are fundamental tools for discovery, expression, and skill development. Here's how your contribution is making a difference:\r\n\r\nEnhancing Learning and Development\r\nBoosting Fine Motor Skills: Holding and manipulating crayons and markers are crucial for developing the fine motor skills essential for writing, drawing, and other everyday tasks. Your donation directly supports this critical development.\r\nSparking Creativity and Self-Expression: With a vibrant array of colors, our students can freely express their imaginations. Whether they're illustrating stories, drawing what they learned in science, or simply creating art, these tools allow their creativity to flourish.\r\nAiding Academic Comprehension: From coloring maps to diagramming plants, visual learning is paramount in first grade. Your donation helps our students engage with concepts in a tangible way, deepening their understanding and recall of information.\r\nPromoting Engagement: There's an undeniable excitement when fresh, colorful art supplies are available. This enthusiasm translates into greater participation and engagement in all classroom activities that involve drawing or coloring.\r\nFostering Inclusivity: Having a plentiful supply means every child has access to the materials they need, ensuring no one is left out due to a lack of supplies. This creates a more equitable and supportive classroom environment.\r\nYour kindness has directly enriched our classroom and empowered our young learners to explore, create, and grow. The smiles on their faces when they choose a new crayon or marker speak volumes about the positive effect of your generosity.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for investing in the future of our students. Your contribution has made a tangible and incredibly positive difference in their daily lives and overall educational experience.\r\n\r\nYour belief in our mission to create a supportive and engaging learning environment is deeply appreciated, and the impact of your kindness resonates throughout our classrooms and beyond. We've seen firsthand how these seemingly small gestures contribute significantly to student well-being, engagement, and academic success.\r\n\r\nSpecifically, the provision of snacks has been invaluable:\r\n\r\nFueling Focus: Regular, healthy snacks prevent hunger-related distractions, allowing students to maintain energy levels and concentrate better during lessons, ultimately improving their learning outcomes.\r\nBoosting Behavior: We've observed a noticeable improvement in classroom behavior as students are less prone to irritability or restlessness when their basic nutritional needs are met. This creates a calmer, more productive learning atmosphere for everyone.\r\nEnsuring Equity: For some of our students, these snacks provide essential nutrition they might otherwise miss, ensuring they can fully participate in school activities without the burden of hunger.\r\nEqually impactful has been the ability to offer prizes and incentives:\r\n\r\nMotivating Effort: The prospect of earning a prize, whether for academic achievement, consistent effort, or positive behavior, serves as a powerful motivator that encourages students to strive for their best.\r\nFostering Engagement: Prizes help to make learning more enjoyable and interactive, increasing student participation in classroom activities and school-wide initiatives.\r\nRecognizing Achievement: Beyond tangible rewards, prizes offer a crucial form of recognition. They affirm a student's hard work, boost their self-esteem, and reinforce the value of their contributions and progress.\r\nYour generosity directly contributes to a more vibrant, positive, and effective learning environment in my classroom. You are helping us to not only educate our students but also to nurture their sense of value, encourage their efforts, and support their overall well-being.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your thoughtful and impactful support. From graphic novels that spark excitement to classic tales that inspire imagination, your selection has opened up new worlds for my young readers.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your donation is evident in the classroom every day. Students who previously struggled with reading are now excited to pick up a book, as they can choose titles that resonate with their interests and reading abilities. The diversity of genres and themes allows them to explore various perspectives and cultures, fostering not only a love for reading but also empathy and understanding for others. One of the most heartwarming moments was seeing a student immediately snuggle the new weighted stuffed animal and visibly relax within minutes. It has quickly become a favorite comfort item for many and was lovingly named Scrambled Eggs by one of my fifth graders. \r\n\r\nThe new carts have been a game changer for keeping everything organized. With designated spots for different tools, students can independently grab what they need—whether it's a fidget to focus or a calming tool to reset. The added storage has made our space more accessible and efficient.\r\n\r\nWe're also using the clipboards during counseling lessons, especially when we're on the move or working in flexible seating areas. The new laminator has allowed me to create durable, reusable visuals and emotion regulation tools that we can use again and again. This newfound enthusiasm often translates into students reading more frequently and willingly, both within the series and beyond.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the structure of the \"Dog Man\" books is particularly beneficial for developing reading skills.
