The new books have quickly become student favorites, especially Wings of Fire and Dog Man. Through these texts, students are building important skills like reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development. We've been diving into character analysis, making predictions, and discussing themes such as friendship, courage, and perseverance. These conversations have helped students strengthen their critical thinking while also learning how to respectfully share and listen to different perspectives.\r\n\r\nReading time in our classroom is now something students eagerly anticipate each day. You'll find students curled up with their books, reading independently, or gathered in small groups, excitedly discussing plot twists and favorite characters. Some of my more reluctant readers have become more confident and engaged, especially when reading Dog Man, which supports comprehension through a blend of text and illustrations. Meanwhile, students who are ready for more complex stories have been captivated by Wings of Fire, stretching their stamina and deepening their understanding of longer narratives.\r\n\r\nThe impact extends beyond reading. The art supplies you provided have given students new ways to express their ideas and make connections to what they read. I've seen students create detailed drawings of scenes from their books, design their own characters, and collaborate on projects that bring stories to life. One student, who previously hesitated to participate in discussions, now eagerly shares their thinking through artwork, building both confidence and pride in their work. Your support has not only enriched our academic learning but has also helped foster creativity, collaboration, and joy in our classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1739723536706,"projectUrl":"project/adventures-in-reading-and-art-fueling-c/9115992/","projectTitle":"Adventures in Reading and Art: Fueling Creativity with New Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stephenson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9265909"},{"teacherId":5080996,"projectId":9796953,"letterContent":"The 6th grade students at Cherrelyn Elementary were able to plan and lead The Great Kindness Challenge school wide. Watching the whole school come together to focus on kindess was amazing!\r\n6th graders took turns taking pictures of students showing kindness. They were able to visit classrooms, cafeteria, recess and library to \"catch\" students and staff being kind. This also gave the 6th graders a chance to increase their responsibility skills as they visited different parts of the school to take pictures.\r\nI continue to see students of all ages (and staff) stop by the Kindness Photo Wall to look for their picture or their friend's picture. The 6th graders continue to take photos and we are able to print them off and hang them up for all to see. This will definitely turn into a tradition for Cherrelyn.","fullyFundedDate":1762975678081,"projectUrl":"project/community-kindness-with-may-day-baskets/9796953/","projectTitle":"Community Kindness with May Day Baskets","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Larson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5080996_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y264&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1678319776655","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5080996"},{"teacherId":9250492,"projectId":9225345,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contributions to my classroom. We are only beginning to use our materials as we have only been in school for 14 days. My students were so excited to see new materials to work with and to have new ways to demonstrate their thinking through hands-on learning.\r\nWe have just begun to work on these lessons this year. My second graders are working on learning other ways to model their understanding of place value. They are great with using the base ten blocks to show their thinking, but struggle to generalize this thinking to other objects. So we are working on learning that a group of 10 objects (popsicle sticks and toothpicks) are the same as a ten block.\r\nMy first graders are beginning to learn what place value is. They are working on learning the base ten blocks and how to then read or write the numbers based on what they modeled with their blocks. My Kindergarteners are being introduced to the blocks through daily counting of how many days we have been in school, adding a new block and stick, and making switches to groups of ten sticks and ten blocks.","fullyFundedDate":1747847936083,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-place-value-kit-for-young-mathe/9225345/","projectTitle":"Hands on Place Value Kit for Young Mathematicians","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Doizaki","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9250492_orig.jpg?crop=894,894,x0,y107&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745590382053","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9250492"},{"teacherId":8894607,"projectId":9293597,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous gift of supply organizers for our first-grade classroom! From notebooks and pencils to organizational materials and classroom essentials, these resources have helped students come to class prepared and ready to learn. One especially meaningful moment was watching students begin a collaborative literary analysis activity with everything they needed already available to them. Instead of worrying about not having supplies, students were able to focus fully on discussing ideas, annotating texts, and participating confidently with their peers.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were genuinely excited and grateful. Many immediately commented on how nice it felt to have fresh supplies and enough materials for everyone. Something as simple as having reliable classroom tools made students feel supported and valued, and it helped create a more positive and productive classroom environment.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these supplies during reading, writing, discussion, and project-based activities throughout the remainder of the school year. Currently, students are working on reflective writing, collaborative discussions, and end-of-year literacy projects that encourage them to think critically about their growth as readers and learners. Your support has helped ensure that all students have access to the tools they need to fully engage in these important learning experiences.
