As a Kindergarten teacher, having my students understand the "why" of learning is an integral part of starting off their education on the right foot. Little learners are always curious about how the world works. Having them understand why we have to practice reading, writing, and math skills everyday AND have a love for learning are all a part of our daily routine. Manipulative items, like building blocks and shape tiles, and play items are the missing pieces in our classroom. Students will be able to connect economic concepts by using the cash register and play food to run their own grocery store. They will strengthen their fine motor skills by creating a structure with legos or K'nex, and increase literacy using manipulative tools as well. Not only will this years' students benefit from these tools, but students will be developing their love and understanding of learning on top of it for years to come!
