Each of these texts introduces powerful lessons and rich reading skills that go far beyond plot. (Other books purchased will be used in subsequent units of inquiry.)\r\n\r\nThrough No Ballet Shoes in Syria, students are exploring empathy and resilience while learning to infer characters' feelings and motivations based on their thoughts and actions. Efren Divided has sparked deep conversations about family, identity, and courage, helping students connect to themes of belonging and justice. With I Survived the Children's Blizzard, readers are practicing visualization, sequencing, and identifying cause-and-effect relationships while learning about historical events through an engaging narrative.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive, joyful, and reflective. Students read in small groups, discuss their thinking, and use sticky notes to track evidence that supports their ideas. They debate character decisions, share \"aha\" moments, and often beg for \"just one more chapter.\"\r\n\r\nOne of my students who was previously hesitant to read has become completely absorbed in I Survived the Children's Blizzard—he loves the action and now proudly calls himself a \"history reader.\" Another student, who recently moved to the U.S., connected deeply with No Ballet Shoes in Syria and wrote, \"I know how Aya feels when she's trying to fit in.\" Moments like these show how these stories build both skills and hearts.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made our reading community stronger, giving students access to books that challenge their thinking, open their minds, and remind them that stories can change us.","fullyFundedDate":1755467249587,"projectUrl":"project/windows-to-the-world-diverse-books-for/9566326/","projectTitle":"Windows to the World: Diverse Books for Young Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mosley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3414531_orig.jpg?crop=3482,3482,x0,y46&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722609742357","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/holcomb-mosley"},{"teacherId":9629282,"projectId":9254771,"letterContent":"When our new flexible seating arrived, my students and I were so excited to put it to use right away. We've been incorporating the new seating into our daily routines—students can now choose where they feel most comfortable to learn, whether it's on a wobble stool for focused writing time or a floor cushion during small-group reading. One of my favorite moments so far was during our identity writing unit. Students spread out across the room, some sitting cross-legged with clipboards and others rocking gently on their stools. The new setup created a calm, focused atmosphere that really supported their creativity.\r\n\r\nThe students' reaction when they first saw the materials was priceless. Their eyes lit up, and they immediately started pointing to the spots they wanted to try. There was a lot of excitement and curiosity as they tested out each option, sharing with one another which seat they liked best. Several students mentioned how much easier it was to stay focused and comfortable compared to sitting in a traditional chair all day.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll continue to use the flexible seating to support collaborative projects. In our upcoming social studies unit, students will work in research teams to learn about different cultural celebrations. The flexible seating will give them the freedom to move around, meet with their groups in cozy corners, and share their findings in a more dynamic way. These new resources have transformed our classroom into a more engaging and student-centered learning environment.","fullyFundedDate":1746786366261,"projectUrl":"project/seating-choices/9254771/","projectTitle":"Seating Choices","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. RACHA","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9629282"},{"teacherId":9630496,"projectId":9273192,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contributions to my classroom. it was a great start to the year. The desk name tags have proven to be an amazing resource for my kindergarten students to refer to when they practice writing their names. The name tags are readily available to them. When they use the alphabet stamps for literacy station, they can use their desk tags to check what a lowercase letter matches the uppercase letter. It has build their self esteem seeing themselves using proper formation of letters. The kids are enjoying different colored bingo dabbers to create letters and designs. Not only this, it allows them to collaborate with each other and admire each others work.\r\n\r\nWe have used the strong. magnet hooks for hanging the colored baskets as we introduced the Zones of Regulation to self regulate our feelings. Everyday the students put their name sticks in a colored basket and it gives me the visual reminder to check-in with my kiddos how they are starting their day. \r\n\r\nAs a teacher, it is so convenient for me to motivate my students and admire their work by using the self inking stamps. My students were thrilled when they saw the desk caddies and the small magnet wipe boards. Since we were already learning about sorting things in different ways as part of our math unit, getting the desk caddies and sorting the writing tools (pencils, erasers, scissors and glue sticks) allowed these kinder kids to actually see it in a concrete way.\r\n\r\nwe discussed about how sorting can be done with different rules (by name or kind, by color or size). There was a rich discussion about what way of sorting would work for our desk caddies so we can find the materials needed quickly and easily. Not only did having the desk caddies taught these kids how to organize the materials, but it also allowed them to have critical thinking about making their decision. \r\n\r\nThe kids have been enjoying writing and drawing on the magnet wipe boards.
