My students are often underepresented in education both because of their learning disabilities and because of their cultural backgrounds. It's very impactful for these children to have access to stories that they can see themselves in on their journeys to becoming readers. We have already put the pencils and headphones to good use! Many of my students speak English as a second (or third!) language. Having headphones is very helpful because they can listen to stories, or directions read aloud to them when completing assignments. This is especially helpful because most students understand more English that they hear than they can read. Having headphones allows them to access more advanced learning materials and keep up with their grade level peers. \r\n\r\nWhen the package of headphones arrived, my students were so happy!
