In the past, background noise made it hard for students to stay focused, but now each child can listen, practice, and record themselves without distraction. This independence allows them to hear their own progress, which is a powerful motivator. The technology makes it possible for students to practice at their own pace while I work with small groups, giving everyone the focused instruction they need.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been hearing their voices come through so clearly during fluency practice. Many of them are shy about reading aloud, but with headphones, they've gained the confidence to try again and again until they're proud of their results. They love the immediate feedback and the sense of ownership over their learning. It has turned what used to be a nerve-wracking activity into something fun and encouraging.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who had struggled with focus during reading time, now eagerly puts on their headphones and dives into practice. They've even started asking to read more passages just to track their improvement. Stories like this show how much of an impact a simple tool can make. Thanks to your generosity, students are building the fluency and confidence they need to become stronger readers—and that will carry with them far beyond this school year.","fullyFundedDate":1746700880229,"projectUrl":"project/hear-speak-and-succeed-headphones-for/9210543/","projectTitle":"Hear, Speak, and Succeed: Headphones for 5th Graders!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Whittaker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2724132"},{"teacherId":9234296,"projectId":8567217,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom has been transformed into a dynamic space where creativity and problem-solving flourish! With the new STEM resources, my students have been exploring hands-on activities that challenge their critical thinking. One standout moment was using magnetic tiles to solve brain teasers focused on spatial reasoning and engineering principles. Students worked to create structures that met specific challenges, like building a bridge strong enough to hold small weights. Watching them test their designs, adapt when things didn't work, and celebrate their successes was truly inspiring. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students are taking ownership of their learning by creating their own challenges to share with classmates. They're designing puzzles and obstacle courses using some of the other materials, combining creativity with critical thinking to push their peers to think in new ways. The enthusiasm for this next step is palpable—students are excited not only to create but also to collaborate and celebrate each other's successes. Your contribution has made this empowering, hands-on learning experience possible, sparking a passion for STEM that I know will stay with them for years to come. Buzzer's are used in comparison to hand raises. It is reminiscent of the real Merv Griffin Version of Jeopardy.\r\n To continue student, test scores have sky rocketed based on using these buzzers in game to review various content areas especially English Language Development.
