They couldn't wait to try out the different chairs and immediately started talking about which spots they wanted to use. After explicitly explaining how to use them (and with lots of practice), we've been using the flexible seating during independent reading, small-group instruction, and center activities. It has been especially exciting to see students learn to make responsible choices about where they can do their best learning.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students settle into their scoop chairs during reading time. They look so comfortable and focused, and it has helped create a classroom environment where students can move, choose, and learn in ways that work best for them.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, we are working hard on building strong reading and math foundations, practicing phonics skills, and becoming more independent learners. Instead of relying on rigid, one-size-fits-all textbooks, this platform allowed me to access custom, SLP-designed digital materials created specifically for visual and tactile learners with Autism. I was able to download, adapt, and assemble specialized tasks—turning raw digital resources into flexible, hands-on learning systems that meet each student exactly where they are developmentally.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting aspect of these new materials is how seamlessly they can be tailored to individual needs, regardless of grade level. Whether a student is working on sorting real-world objects to build functional language, snapping together visual icons for 'Subject + Verb' sentences, or using interactive cards to answer WH-questions, the predictable, structured task format turns essential language goals into engaging, low-anxiety activities. The bright visuals and tactile components give our students immediate, independent wins, which builds their confidence every time they complete a box.\r\n\r\nBecause these resources can be continuously adapted, students who previously struggled with traditional communication tasks have completely warmed to the new routine. The hands-on format allows them to show us what they know without feeling overwhelmed. Furthermore, by placing these SLP-designed tools directly into our everyday classroom environment, speech practice is no longer confined to a single therapy session—it happens continually throughout the school day.
