I work with them individually or in small groups, often in short, focused sessions carved out of their busy school day. That's exactly why this project mattered so much: the materials gave these students meaningful, high-impact practice during the limited time we have together.\r\n\r\nWith the new tools, students were engaged in learning and using core word vocabulary. Kids working on articulation could practice sounds in ways that felt playful instead of repetitive.\r\n\r\nYou could see the shift session by session: more joint attention, more attempts at communication, more joy in mastering a skill they had struggled with. The materials also allowed me to tailor therapy more precisely to each child's needs, whether it was sensory items to help them regulate enough to engage, or visuals and hands on activities that made abstract concepts concrete.\r\n\r\nFor children in our community, these small wins add up. They walk back to class more confident, more connected, and better able to participate with their peers. Your support directly strengthened their communication skills—skills that shape their experience in school and far beyond.","fullyFundedDate":1762267641226,"projectUrl":"project/building-language-through-play-with-core/9674659/","projectTitle":"Building Language Through Play with Core Words!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. G.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3783378_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1505182557098","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3783378"},{"teacherId":7091875,"projectId":9386140,"letterContent":"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous support of our classroom through DonorsChoose. Many of my students this year are still in the sensory exploration phase of learning, and these materials are perfect for meeting them where they are at! The sensory play has been a huge hit, and so many of the children play and engage with materials at the sensory table for much longer than they do other activities. \r\n\r\nThe tuff tray sensory table took longer than expected to arrive, so we have only just started using it, but it has been a favorite activity so far! I made some taste safe kinetic sand that the kids loved to push toy cars through and dig. Before the tray arrived, we used the other sensory play materials in other bins for things like scooping, pouring, and other skills that encourage bilateral coordination and visual motor integration. The scoops and test tubes have been a very popular, engaging activity!\r\n\r\nMy students have also enjoyed using the rhythm sticks very often to work on imitating movements, body awareness, and creating rhythmic patterns. We are so excited to continue using these materials, and for all the sensory play we can do going forward with our tuff tray. Some future plans include water play once it gets warmer, painting with different materials and mediums like colored foam and spray bottles, making cloud dough, ice painting, and so much more. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity, it has meant so much to my students and I!","fullyFundedDate":1731939647007,"projectUrl":"project/help-autistic-children-access-occupation/8865543/","projectTitle":"Help Autistic Children Access Occupational Therapy Sensory Exploration Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brubaker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7536609_orig.jpg?crop=1863,1863,x456,y603&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1629220703940","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7536609"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_25468","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":75,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":60,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.5,"schoolId":25468,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cameron Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cameron Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/west-contra-costa-unified-school-district/cameron-school/25468"}
