Your generosity has already made a big impact, and I'm excited to share what that looks like in our classroom.\r\n\r\nMy Homeroom students were so excited when the hot chocolate, cups, and snacks arrived! They have really enjoyed making hot chocolate and enjoying it with a snack during Homeroom and/or Advisory periods as they complete their work. Many of these students don't have \"easy access\" to snacks on a regular basis, so this really made them feel special and loved.\r\n\r\nAs for the books - we read the first half of Always Running by Luis Rodriguez during first semester in my English classes using borrowed books from another high school. I am so very excited to be able to box those books and to return them to the other high school once all of the copies that you so generously purchased for our classroom arrive! There is no doubt that students will be proud to be able to use copies of the books that actually belong to our school. I have already heard from numerous students that this is the first book that they have \"actually read\" and/or enjoyed. Thanks to you, I will be able to continue to teach it this year and in the years to come.\r\n\r\nThe mechanical pencils and highlighters could not have arrived at a better time - the supply boxes and supplies that I purchased myself in August were getting a bit shabby. Now, they are all filled with working/new pencils and highlighters - all thanks to you!\r\n\r\nYour support has already helped to create a classroom environment in which students feel comfortable, motivated, and able to learn Thank you for helping make class time and reading a positive and meaningful part of their school day—we are so grateful!\r\n\r\nWarmly,\r\nDianne Fergus\r\nEnglish Teacher","fullyFundedDate":1766714527802,"projectUrl":"project/words-and-motivation/9689288/","projectTitle":"Words and Motivation","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fergus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10244282"},{"teacherId":8979216,"projectId":9917872,"letterContent":"Thanks to all of you, your donation to our project \"Moving Towards Mastery: Tactile Learning and Flexible Seating\" has opened up a new world for my students. I wish you could have seen the \"unboxing\" moment; the students were absolutely thrilled as we unpacked the stools and watched the bean bag chairs fluff up. \r\n\r\nSince then, these resources have become an essential part of our daily routine. During silent reading time, it's incredibly rewarding to see students curled up on the bean bag chairs, totally engrossed in their novels. The stools have also been a game-changer for collaboration; students now easily pull up to one another to work on projects or engage in book groups. We've even started taking the stools outside to utilize our outdoor space. This flexibility is key to meeting the unique needs of each student, providing them with a quiet, comforting space or a dynamic group setting depending on the task at hand and their needs that day.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are excited to expand our \"book circle\" time. We showed the students our Karaoke CD's. Any song not on these CDs, we can find on the Internet and connect via Bluetooth. \r\n\r\nThe singing and happiness was contagious. Who cares, really, if we aren't singing perfectly? Students and 3 staff members sang. We applauded after each performer sang. We were each others back up dancers. For moodier songs, we were the captive audience. Students asked, when can we do this again? I replied, you or we can do this any day & every day after school. We all left for home happier and with smiles.\r\n\r\nOur last song was \"Summer Lovin'\" from Grease. Many students rushed for the microphones. We took turns singing the main parts and all chimed in for the chorus. Your support is more than just a gift of books—it is an investment in equity, representation, and transformation for students who have too often been overlooked in traditional academic settings.\r\n\r\nMy students are continuation learners—young people who have faced barriers in education, whether through systemic challenges, personal hardships, or earlier academic struggles. For them, reading is not always associated with joy or discovery. But when they encounter stories that reflect their lives, cultures, voices, and identities, something powerful happens: they begin to see themselves not only as readers, but as thinkers, storytellers, and lifelong learners.\r\n\r\nYour donation has helped us build a library that honors those identities. You helped us add novels by authors of color, LGBTQ+ voices, and writers who speak to the nuanced realities of youth navigating the margins. These books open doors for our students—doors to empathy, resilience, imagination, and academic confidence. For some, it's the first time they've voluntarily finished a book. For others, it's the first time they've seen their lived experience represented with dignity.\r\n\r\nAs an educator committed to lifelong reading and book love, I want you to know that your support fuels my mission to create equitable opportunities in every corner of my classroom.
