During the first part of the program, mentors focused on developing empathy, active listening, and communication skills so they could better support younger students.\r\n\r\nNow that mentorship meetings are underway, these students are building meaningful relationships across grade levels. Sixth graders gain someone closer in age they can talk to while learning how to navigate and adjust to middle school. At the same time, eighth graders develop a greater sense of purpose as they look out for two younger students and pass along the wisdom they've gained through their own middle school experiences.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrive, they will help make the time mentors and mentees spend together even more meaningful by providing activities and conversation prompts to guide their meetings.\r\n\r\nPrograms like Culture Keepers help foster a stronger school community and create a greater sense of belonging for all students.
