Having a dedicated copy for every student completely transformed our reading experience. Instead of relying on printouts or screenshots of the text, my students were able to deeply immerse themselves in their own, brand new copy as they followed along with Isabel's harrowing journey through Revolutionary War-era New York.\r\n\r\nTeaching a historical fiction novel like Chains allowed us to build critical skills that go far beyond standard reading comprehension. Through Isabel's perspective, my students learned to analyze complex historical themes, differentiate between a character's personal struggles and the larger political landscape, and explore the concept of freedom from multiple viewpoints. The book served as a perfect bridge for 6th graders to practice reading between the lines, identify symbolism (like the literal and figurative chains in the story), and understand how point-of-view shapes historical narratives.\r\n\r\nThe impact on individual students has been profound. In particular, a few of my most reluctant readers, who typically struggle to stay engaged with historical texts, were completely captivated by the suspense and stakes of Isabel's life as a spy. I even had students scrambling to get their hands on the sequel to the novel, excited to find out what happens next. Your gift has not only provided books; it has sparked a genuine love for history and literature in a diverse group of young learners. We have been able to use the tuners to help us develop an ear for the correct notes in orchestra. The students are able to see if their note is right on the mark or if they are flat/sharp. They can also see if their finger placement is correct. Other students are so grateful for the shoulder rests as they can play more comfortably and are not hurting anymore. \r\n\r\nAs far as the percussion, our students are able to learn how to play those specific instruments and cover those parts in their music. We played a cumbia style song this past winter concert and we had the instrumentation for it to sound as authentic as possible. \r\n\r\nThe students were SO excited and full of smiles. Thanks to your generous support, my students are now more motivated than ever to practice their sounds. Engaging games like Jenga and Battleship have transformed our sessions. They are able to produce a high number of repetitions AND find joy in the activities we complete. \r\n\r\nIn addition, materials such as the 100 Task Cards for Making Inferences have been an invaluable resource. The short, engaging passages are rich with language-learning opportunities, allowing my students to practice skills such as inferencing, vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking in a fun way.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has made a real difference in their progress and confidence during speech sessions.
