The sports and Pokémon cards have become an incredible tool for positivity in our classroom. Rather than relying on traditional food or snack incentives, these card packs serve as a healthy, highly motivating reward when students meet their academic, social, and emotional goals. Seeing them beam with pride as they earn a pack and share their favorite pulls with classmates has created a wonderfully supportive classroom environment.\r\n\r\nBeyond motivation, these resources have directly enhanced our daily lessons. We frequently use the sports cards as hands-on manipulatives in math, transforming abstract concepts into engaging real-world practice as students calculate player averages and convert fractions, decimals, and percentages. The sports stem content and sports history books have also given students extra opportunities to read about topics and athletes they genuinely care about, fostering a renewed enthusiasm for independent reading time. Additionally, the archery supplies have been vital in allowing me to modify and implement the California State NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) curriculum for our population of special education students, giving students a unique physical activity that builds confidence, focus, and self-regulation.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve diving deeper into hands-on data analysis using our card collections, where students will compile stats, construct personal sports profiles, and present their mathematical findings to the class. On the field, we will continue progressing through our NASP archery units, working on technique, goal-setting, and personal growth. Your support has made a meaningful difference in our classroom!\r\n\r\nIt is rewarding seeing students settle into their seats, get comfortable, and become more engaged in their learning. I am also able to use a stool to help my students more easily, sitting right next to them at their desks to view their work or their Chromebook. This allows for meaningful student-teacher interactions and conferences, thus helping them improve their work! My students read on a daily basis and experience a world of adventure and intrigue that adds to their life outside of their existing world. A Long Walk to Water opened their eyes to 'The Lost Boys' of Africa and difficulties of being a refugee. We got dumbbells, and it's been so much fun! When I was asked to teach this class, I knew I wanted to teach my students about functional fitness as this is a sport and hobby that I participate in earnestly. I love fitness and working out, and I was so excited to get the opportunity to teach it to middle schoolers in the school setting! My biggest predicament was... I didn't have any equipment, and dumbbells are pricey! Thanks to you, we've been enjoying workouts with dumbbells ever since we received your donation. \r\n\r\nBecause of you, students are getting stronger, becoming more fit and more athletic. My boys and girls alike are learning to lift weights. We do shoulder presses, dumbbell deadlifts, and bicep curls. Students set benchmark goals for themselves and have been working toward improving those goals weekly. In direct instruction we glue notes into our interactive notebooks, and pencils and erasers are available for those who need essential writing tools. The headphones have been a game changer for standardized test practice, helping students focus, and I've used the lamination pouches to create sturdier lesson materials and classroom posters that will last for years.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials they were genuinely excited and grateful — you could feel their enthusiasm the moment they unwrapped the markers and notebooks. They especially love using the dry erase markers every day; it's become a small classroom ritual that makes practice feel fun and hands-on. As for next steps, we'll continue to use these classroom basics daily to support current lessons and projects and to ensure every student has what they need to participate fully.
