Although we are in the winter period and not sailing at moment, having these materials ready for March, when we do hit the water, is extremely helpful. \r\n\r\nHaving sunscreen and a replenished first aid kit ready to go for our spring sailing season are little details which will help my students be safe and healthy on the water. As for the rope - my teaching assistants used a rope burner to cut it into sections to be handed out to students for knot practice. Gotta know how to tie that bowline!\r\n\r\nThe dock box is the big one. We are having a work party in February to repair the dock and build the new dock box. They are able to create a design after learning about the brief history across many cultures of the different types of printmaking mediums. After creating the design of their choice, they are able to carve utilizing carving tools on rubber blocks that will eventually serve as their master copy, to be reprinted on any surface they choose! Students get tactile experience to creatively explore materials, and learn each process, and get a little messy as a bonus. \r\nWhether working with beginning art students or advanced art students, printmaking is a unique technique and art skill that all enjoy on any level. And in this project, many students do not have to utilize technology or the internet to find ideas (which they are open to search) but it was also sweet to see students hone in on their project without a need for their phones, laptops or any other screen.
