We started the Hillside school store last fall and it has been a huge success. Students are able to buy items in the school store using their Hillside Hi-Fives. Students can earn Hi-Fives from their teachers or school staff by following school expectations, i.e. being responsible, being kind, being safe. Students then use their Hi-Fives as currency in our school store. Our student leaders help run the store. Due to your donations, we are able to have the store open twice a month instead of our originally planned once a month. The store has helped create a sense of community, brought a sense of excitment and has helped teacher students leadership skills, financial literacy and accountability. Again thank you for keeping our store fully stocked so that we are able to keep it running. The students are so excited to visit the store and due to its popularity and your donations, we are increasing the student store to twice a week. We have \"hired\" student leaders from grades 2-5 to help run the store. Even though the student leaders are working during their lunch recess, they are beyond excited and willing to help run the store. Students are in charge of taking orders, being the cashier and handing out items. The students are practicing communication skills, leadership, patience and conflict resolution skills. I have had many students come up to me and ask if they can work in the store as well. Furthermore, the store has helped build relationships between students and support staff who normally don't have a lot of time to interact with students. \r\n\r\nDue to the student's excitement, teachers are giving out more tickets, which means that students are getting more intentional recognition for good behavior and following school expectations. Staff have noticed an increase in motivation\r\nThe school store has also increased the sense of community and pride in the school. The hardest part about having a school store is keeping it stocked with items to sell. This is something g that we use on a daily basis. It truly has been such a great addition to our classroom. \r\n\r\nWhen we use the easel when we are on the rug for a variety of lessons. It is used as a stand to hold our big books for when I read to the students during Interactive Reading Lessons and Shared Reading. It allows for the students to see the illustrations and words. My hands are free to point t out different words, phrases, and illustrations. We also use the easel for our word study lessons. Students break apart words, learn about spelling patterns, and phonics when we write on the white board. The third graders are on their way to becoming better readers and writers, in part because of the fabulous easel that you helped us get. \r\n\r\nThanks again! You are very thoughtful and kind.
