They actively ask to practice math, celebrate working through challenges, and often choose math centers during their free time (which speaks volumes about their growing confidence and motivation!). The hands-on, engaging activities have helped make math feel approachable and fun, even for students who previously struggled.\r\n\r\nThe math centers have also led to measurable growth in foundational skills such as number sense, fact fluency, and problem-solving. Students are able to work at their instructional level using differentiated task cards, which has resulted in more successful practice opportunities and fewer behavior issues during math time. Many students have progressed to higher-level tasks over the course of the project, showing increased independence and stamina.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, this project has helped students build confidence, resilience, and a positive mindset toward math. With consistent access to food, students are better able to sustain their attention, participate actively in lessons, and regulate their emotions throughout the day. I have notice fewer mid-lesson distractions, less fatigue, and a more positive classroom climate, as students are no longer preoccupied with hunger. Snack time also becomes something students look forward to, creating a smooth transition in the day and helping them re-engage with excitement and curiosity for learning.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, everyday snacks support important social-emotional growth. Students are learning to share with peers, wait their turn, and be mindful of others' needs, building habits of kindness and community.
