All of the materials are great, but there are some favorites. The Legos are a big hit and often have many students using them. They have created vehicles, cameras, buildings, and so much more. The Magnatiles are also always popular. The students work together, and they always figure out ways to share them. The Brainflakes are also very popular. Even if students choose to create the same figure, they are unique because each student gets to pick the colors they will use. I am also glad we have two origami sets. Students pair up and decide what they will work on. Last week, a pair of students decided to make cups. They each made about 10 cups, getting better and better with their origami project. They were very generous and offered their cups to other students in the class. I am so grateful, and it has been such a joy to see how the materials have allowed the students to be creative, learn, and continue to build our classroom community!","fullyFundedDate":1756981936290,"projectUrl":"project/stem-materials-for-learning-and-creativi/9666885/","projectTitle":"Stem Materials for Learning and Creativity","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Laura","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3651031"},{"teacherId":2039836,"projectId":9398125,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our new color printer has made a surprisingly big impact on student learning. While many people use printers at home, using one in a school setting looks very different. The color printer has allowed my students to access learning materials in ways that are clearer, more engaging, and more meaningful. Visual supports—especially for English language learners—are now vibrant, easy to interpret, and far more effective for helping students understand complex concepts.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is seeing their own work printed in full color. Whether it's a writing piece, a science diagram, or a project they've designed themselves, the color brings their ideas to life. They've taken more pride and ownership in their assignments because the final product looks professional and polished. It's boosted their confidence and motivation tremendously.\r\n\r\nFor my English language learners, color visuals have made vocabulary, anchor charts, and instructional materials far more accessible.\r\n\r\nYour generosity provided more than a printer—you gave students tools that help them see themselves as creators, authors, scientists, and scholars. The chairs have truly transformed my makerspace. Now they can easily collaborate, gather materials, and adjust their work areas as they design and code. It's had a huge impact on how smoothly their creative projects run. In the 5th grade classes, students must collaborate to create a cardboard shoe and add a pedometer, which they must use code to create the step counter. The first graders are using fun mini robots to program the life cycle of a butterfly. All of my kinder through 5th graders are loving the collaborative feel because of these new chairs. Each Wednesday brought a sense of excitement as students discovered a new art material or game to explore. The most popular by far has been the Play-Dough. Week after week, students return to it, creating elaborate pretend colorful food and other objects. What has been most rewarding, though, is seeing how these playful experiences have strengthened their communication and interpersonal skills. As they share materials, and solve creative disagreements, they're learning how to listen, compromise, and resolve conflicts respectfully—all through play.\r\n\r\nWe've also been diving into the new books that came with this project. As a class, we're reading Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things, and my students can't get enough of the anxious second grader who's trying his best to navigate school and friendship. They laugh, relate, and share their own stories of worry and courage. During independent reading time, the Franny K. Stein series has been flying off the shelf—students are drawn to her quirky experiments and wild imagination. Seeing them so engaged with both art and literature has been a joy.\r\n\r\nWith your donated these materials my students collaborate, create, and communicate face-to-face instead of through screens. The mirror has been especially helpful for articulation practice, giving students clear visual feedback as they work on new sounds.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the updated space, they were excited and immediately explored each item. Several students went straight to the mirror to try out their target sounds, and others gathered on the rug for books and language games. These materials have helped create an environment where students feel motivated, confident, and proud of their progress.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include using the new setup for more visual and play-based articulation activities and small-group lessons on the rug. However, what I never expected was how this donation would become a key resource for a new first-grade student in my class—one who lost his vision completely at the age of three.\r\nWhen he arrived, I wondered how I would teach him to read. Then, I thought about the figurines. With the help of the vision teacher, who provided me with stickers featuring Braille letters, I found a way to introduce the alphabet in the same sequence he is learning it in Braille. Using touch and detailed descriptions, he can identify objects represented by the figurines. Some, like the sun, he even remembers seeing before losing his vision.\r\nI have worked with other students with visual impairments before, but never with a child who has total vision loss. Because of your contribution, we were able to purchase Spanish decodable books and phonics lesson materials, resources that are already making a significant impact on the literacy development of our students.\r\n\r\nAs you may know, early reading skills are crucial for lifelong academic success. The students I work with are still building the foundational skills they need to read and write confidently. Thanks to your donation, we now have a set of engaging, culturally relevant decodable books in Spanish, which allow our students to practice their phonics skills in context and gain confidence as readers.\r\n\r\nThe books and phonics lessons are already sparking excitement among the students. These culturally relevant, interactive materials allow them to connect sounds to letters, practice blending, and break down words in a way that is accessible and fun. Students are now more engaged, showing progress not only in their reading but also in their overall confidence.
