Having a rug is important to my third graders and to our after school program because we use it every day. The rug is a special place to my third graders because we use it to sit on during instruction time, to do community building activities, and to stretch and move during breaks. On this rug, we read books together, and create a safe space to learn from and about each other. We use this rug to introduce new topics, to have students learn from each other, and to play games because we believe having everyone gather to learn is a great way to show them everyone is an important part of our classroom community.
