This was my very first time utilizing DonorsChoose, and I am so grateful for my positive experience. I was truly blown away by everyone's thoughtfulness and generosity, even though nobody personally knew my students or I.\r\n\r\nI've been teaching in a bilingual/dual-immersion classroom for the past two years. Unfortunately, I did not have the resources I needed to truly engage my students. For my first project, I chose flexible seating and more Spanish books. The book topics and titles came directly from the students.\r\n\r\nWhen the flexible seating arrived, the students couldn't wait to try them out; of course, they had to wait their turn. They were also excited to receive the books that they requested. There were no longer issues with getting the students to read Spanish books. These new books were intriguing. We've set up a student store where students can use their hard-earned Dojo Points to \"purchase\" fun rewards like toys, fidgets, and stickers. One memorable moment was when a student saved up for two weeks to get a special squishy toy—his face lit up with pride when he finally bought it, and he told the whole class it was \"totally worth the wait!\"\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the bins of new items, they could hardly contain their excitement. There were many \"oohs\" and \"aahs\" as they pointed out their favorite stickers or fidgets and calculated how many points they'd need. It became a great opportunity to talk about making smart choices and working toward goals. The puzzle helped them learn about how far each planet is from earth. The star viewer and fun fact pamphlet helped them learn about different stars within our galaxy and how they look. They even got a chance to learn about some constellations.\r\nThank you for all your wonderful donations the students had a chance to do hands on activities that are align with science standards while having fun!
