These boxes are filled with tools that help students regulate their emotions, manage stress, and refocus when they are feeling overwhelmed. Students use the calming boxes during designated breaks, after challenging situations, or whenever they need support getting back into a learning mindset. One memorable moment occurred when a student who was becoming frustrated during a difficult assignment independently chose to use a calming box, practiced some calming strategies, and returned ready to complete their work. It was a wonderful example of growing self-awareness and self-regulation.\r\n\r\nWhen the calming boxes first arrived, the students were incredibly excited. They were eager to explore the different sensory tools and learn how each item could help them. Many students immediately began talking about which tools felt most helpful to them and appreciated having resources that supported their individual needs. The boxes quickly became a valued part of our classroom community, helping students feel safe, supported, and empowered.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, students will keep practicing social-emotional learning skills such as identifying emotions, coping with stress, and building resilience. The calming boxes will remain an important tool as students learn to recognize when they need support and develop strategies to manage their feelings independently. Your contribution has provided resources that will benefit students far beyond a single lesson; it is helping them build lifelong skills for success both in and out of the classroom. Thank you for investing in our students and helping create a learning environment where every child can thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1771016852952,"projectUrl":"project/calming-boxes-for-mindful-moments/9802992/","projectTitle":"Calming Boxes for Mindful Moments","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Archer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp434893_orig.jpg?crop=386,386,x29,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1597772271196","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/danaarcher"},{"teacherId":10463114,"projectId":10153072,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations to our project. The butterfly and ladybug habitats, along with the science materials, had a tremendous impact on my students' learning this year.\r\n\r\nEach morning, the children eagerly rushed into the classroom, excited to see how the caterpillars and ladybugs had changed and grown. Watching the metamorphosis firsthand was deeply engaging and sparked endless curiosity. Students gathered around the habitats every day to observe, ask questions, share their ideas, and make predictions about what would happen next.\r\n\r\nWhen the butterflies and ladybugs finally emerged, the students were absolutely amazed! We released them into our school garden, and for weeks afterward, whenever a butterfly or ladybug flew by, the children would excitedly say, \"There goes our butterfly!\" It was a meaningful experience that helped them develop a genuine connection to the natural world.\r\n\r\nThe books and art materials also enriched our learning, allowing students to deepen their understanding through reading, discussion, and creative expression.\r\n\r\nThank you for making these hands-on learning experiences possible. The Lego Globe has already become a huge hit in our classroom. My students are so excited to come, explore, and learn thanks to the wonderful supplies from DonorsChoose.\r\n\r\nMy students have been interested in our normal globe all year, so of course when I brought in the Lego globe, all of our classroom was amazed. After explaining that we have to be gentler with this globe, I let the students explore the globe themselves. Students were immediately asking where different places were on the globe, and exploring the globe in their free time. I also told the students that they should carefully peek inside the globe to see the intricacy of how the Legos were put together to create the globe itself. The globe came during our How the World Works unit as intended, but a little bit late to be used with their arcade game final projects. Instead, we are using it as inspiration to create our own Lego city before the last day of school! I am so grateful to all of you for helping our students with their creativity and engineering skills!\r\n\r\nOur next step for our classroom is to bring other LEGO projects to connect engineering to our learning in a kid-friendly way. My students were in awe of the beautiful painting like Lego model, and were immediately drawn to the cherry blossoms in the scene. We decided to make a giant wall art of cherry blossoms, inspired by the Legos, which we later were able to display at one of our school events! The children were so happy and proud of their hard, collaborative work. Additionally, we do an activity called Think Outside the Box where I give my students a shape and then they draw something that they imagine it could be. I was so happy to see that one of my students envisioned the Lego art within the shape! Sometimes you never know when or how inspiration will strike with the students, so it was a great reminder that even when I'm not trying to pull attention to the displays I have in my classroom, all of these items make a difference when I expose them to the children in one way or another.
