Students are practicing short mindfulness exercises, journaling reflections, and learning how to use calming tools appropriately. Over the next few weeks, we'll introduce social-emotional lessons that help them identify emotions, build empathy, and communicate their needs—skills that the Zen Den supports beautifully.","fullyFundedDate":1748713316973,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-safe-and-supportive-counselin/9358706/","projectTitle":"Creating a Safe and Supportive Counseling Space for Our Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lobato-Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10036514"},{"teacherId":10036514,"projectId":9587950,"letterContent":"Our new Zen Den has quickly become one of the most meaningful parts of our counseling space. Students have been using the calming tools, sensory items, and flexible seating during individual check-ins, small group sessions, and self-regulation breaks. The space is already helping students learn how to name their emotions, regulate their bodies, and return to class more focused and confident.\r\n\r\nA memorable classroom moment\r\nOn the very first day the Zen Den opened, a student walked in, sat on one of the new floor cushions, and whispered, \"It feels so peaceful in here.\" Another student immediately gravitated toward the sensory toys and said they made their mind feel \"less loud.\" Watching them explore the space so respectfully and honestly was an unforgettable moment. It showed me just how much they needed a place like this.\r\n\r\nHow students reacted when they first saw the materials\r\nTheir reactions were priceless—wide eyes, big smiles, and an immediate sense of relief. Many students touched the soft seating or gently picked up the new calm-down tools and asked, \"Can we really use all of this?\" Several said the room felt like \"a safe spot\" or \"a break for their brain.\" The excitement wasn't loud; it was more like a collective exhale.\r\n\r\nWhat's next for our students\r\nNext, we'll be integrating the new tools into ongoing social-emotional lessons. Students will be practicing coping strategies, learning conflict-resolution skills, and using the Zen Den for short, structured regulation breaks. I'll also be teaching them how to choose the right tool—like breathing spheres, sensory paths, or journaling cards—based on what their body or emotions need in the moment. These materials will support them throughout the year as they build lifelong self-regulation skills.","fullyFundedDate":1755364264903,"projectUrl":"project/essential-items/9587950/","projectTitle":"Essential items","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lobato-Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10036514"},{"teacherId":9997296,"projectId":9261286,"letterContent":"My students have been loving all the materials they received through this donation. The second the supplies hit the shelves, they were diving in—especially the coloring materials. They use them for just about every assignment now, whether we're labeling diagrams, illustrating stories, or just adding a little extra flair to their work (especially their morning work). One of my favorite moments was watching them collaborate with their kinder buddies to make community-building crafts. The room was buzzing with excitement, and the pride they felt in sharing their creations was just the best. My students also used many of these supplies to make posters for our student council election!\r\nRight now, we're using these resources to push forward on a project where students create posters to reflect on what they're learning in science for the Changing Earth unit. Your generosity has not only filled our room with color and organization but has also filled our students with pride and a sense of responsibility. the beautiful green and teal book bins have been such a gift. Each student has their own special bin to safely store their Fundations Phonics materials- magnetic letter tiles, whiteboards, and other tools that are essential to their reading growth. These materials are expensive and designed to last for many years, and our students truly understand that. They beam with pride knowing they've been entrusted with something so important. It's been inspiring to see how carefully they treat their bins and how much ownership they take in keeping their learning tools safe for themselves and for the students who will come after them.\r\n\r\nThe colorful stools have added so much joy and energy to our classroom. During English Language Arts groups, students love picking their favorite color stool and gathering around the table together-it feels special and new compared to their old blue plastic chairs. The stools give them just enough freedom to move and fidget in ways that help them stay focused and engaged. Our tangrams have become a classroom favorite too. , When we read \"Grandfather Tang's Story\", students eagerly experimented with seven unique shapes to recreate the animals. The sense of accomplishment on their faces when they succeed is priceless. Our new headphones, timers , folders and chart paper have also made daily learning smoother and more organized. \r\nPerhaps most exciting are the inflatable donut seats which our students have been working to earn as part of our behavior reward system. They can't wait to now cash out their coupons for time on the donuts- a reward that encourages movement and helps them channel their energy in positive ways. Each item you have provided has brought purpose and delight to our classroom, helping our students feel seen, supported and genuinely excited to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1753982387741,"projectUrl":"project/growing-mind-and-healthy-body/9435439/","projectTitle":"Growing Mind and Healthy Body","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Girdhar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10055209_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750983998223","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10055209"},{"teacherId":9997296,"projectId":9252355,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my project!\r\nMy students are using their new notebooks and folders daily for both science and social studies. Thanks to the new storage bins, they're able to keep their work organized and in one place (no more lost papers or scrambling to find materials)! It's been a game-changer for our classroom routine. During Fun Friday, students love choosing from the new educational games and often head straight to our cozy library corner to play and relax with their classmates. It's wonderful to see them learning through play in a space they truly enjoy.\r\n They were so excited! There were smiles all around and a lot of \"oohs\" and \"wows\" as they explored everything in my cozy classroom. They really appreciate having an organized environment. It helps them feel more in control of their learning and proud of their classroom.\r\n We will be diving deeper into our science and social studies units. The next steps involve more hands-on activities, group projects, and student-led discussions. With their materials organized and accessible, students are better prepared to collaborate and take ownership of their learning. We're also planning to introduce new reading challenges in the library area, encouraging students to explore different genres and share book reviews with the class.\r\n Your generosity has truly made a lasting impact, and we can't thank you enough!","fullyFundedDate":1746785764275,"projectUrl":"project/ms-bedollas-first-classroom/9252355/","projectTitle":"Ms. Bedolla's First Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bedolla","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9997296_orig.jpg?crop=822,822,x259,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1744780340509","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9997296"},{"teacherId":9932120,"projectId":9258613,"letterContent":"I want to take a moment to thank you for supporting our classroom with the new markers and art supplies. My students and I have already been putting them to great use, and the excitement in the room has been inspiring.\r\n\r\nOne special moment was during a self-expression art project where students created posters about \"Who I Am.\" With the new markers and materials, they were able to bring their ideas to life in bold colors and detailed designs. The pride they felt in their work was clear. Several students even asked to share their posters with the class, something they might not have felt confident doing before.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived, the students' reactions were priceless. Their eyes lit up, and the room filled with chatter as they opened the boxes and began testing out the markers. Many commented on how the colors helped them show their personalities, and a few said it was the \"best day of art class ever.\"\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our classroom feels more creative and alive. As our next step, students will continue using these supplies to enhance their writing projects by adding illustrations that showcase their stories. Your donations made my longtime dream a reality and as I guide my students through their daily activities I marvel at the amazing difference it has made in their educational journey. \r\n\r\nOn the morning the tables and chairs were delivered, the children were in their P.E class, which gave me the opportunity to set everything up and surprise them. The sheer joy and excitement in their faces and voices as they entered the room to find brand new colorful tables and chairs made my heart so happy. At the conclusion of our center rotations I asked how it felt to do their activities and they all shouted out, \"Great!\" Seeing and hearing their excitement was truly the greatest gift I have received in my 25 plus years in Education.\r\n\r\nNow, all of the children can easily and comfortably move from place to place, even as second language learners; and set up/clean up is 100% in their hands; they easily sort the scissors, glue sticks and scissors into the work tubs and place them on each corresponding table. \r\n\r\nThe impact of your contribution cannot be overstated, as it has brought so much joy and excitement to the children.
