One of my favorite moments happened during our first awards assembly was when a group of students who had worked hard to improve their attendance proudly came up to receive their scooter. Their faces beamed as their classmates cheered them on, celebrating their accomplishment.\r\n\r\nWhen our students first saw the scooters and found out they can win them for attendance, their reactions ranged from wide-eyed surprise to pure joy. Many of them asked, \"Are those really for us?\" and several immediately began talking about how they were going to work even harder to be at school every day. The excitement spread quickly, creating a positive buzz throughout the building and reinforcing the idea that their efforts are seen and valued.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the scooters will continue to support our ongoing work around attendance. We had over 100 families come play literacy games, choose books, take part in readers theater plays, and eat s'mores!\r\nOur Roosevelt families started Literacy Night off by taking a photo in front of a camping background. They got to take home a polaroid of their family! Next, families moved through literacy games rotations. Kindergarten students worked on letter sounds and CVC words. Our first grade students played games with blends, digraphs and R-controlled vowels.
