We have been 'growing' our garden space over the past seven months, and it has been a joy to watch our new outdoor learning environment being utilized by students from various grade levels across our campus. As an early childhood teacher, I don't typically get to work with older elementary students, so it has been a uniquely rewarding experience for me to support students who have demonstrated independent, interest-driven inquiry and research on topics such as pollinators, fungi, and carnivorous plants. Every day, I have a group of 5th-grade garden helpers who show up to support the garden. They've helped with hand-watering, refilling watering cans, planting seeds/plants, problem-solving pest-control issues, and weeding.\r\n\r\nWe're so excited to continue moving this project forward, and we've scheduled a plumber to install a backflow preventer, which will help us complete a drip-irrigation system. We're also building a garden shed, which will help us store gardening materials and improve teacher access to instructional materials for the garden. This project will continue to grow for years to come. Thank you so much for the generous donations that made this project possible.","fullyFundedDate":1748467584516,"projectUrl":"project/growing-future-leaders-a-school-garden/9202607/","projectTitle":"Growing Future Leaders: A School Garden Initiative at Del Lago","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sparks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2551195_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1535823927393","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sparkskindergarten"},{"teacherId":10276591,"projectId":9841012,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in funding our light table and new materials. This project has transformed the way my students engage with learning. In our classroom, we use these resources in two ways: sometimes I place specific materials out with a clear academic goal in mind—like using translucent lines and curves to form letters, sorting colored counters by different attributes, or strengthening spatial awareness skills by replicating pictures with blocks. Other times, I simply set out a tray of colorful stones, shells, or translucent shapes and let the children explore freely. In both scenarios, the result is the same: they are deeply focused, collaborating with one another, and genuinely enjoying the process of discovery.\r\n\r\nThe moment my students first saw the light table glowing in our classroom, their eyes lit up with pure wonder. It turned ordinary activities into something magical—suddenly, sorting and tracing felt like play, not work. Even our quietest learners were drawn in, eager to touch, arrange, and experiment. Now that I have this tool, my next steps are to intentionally design lessons that weave in math, literacy, and science concepts—like using the table to explore light and shadows, practice number concepts with glowing stones, or build names with transparent letters. I also love stepping back and simply observing how they use the materials on their own; their creativity gives me so many new ideas for how to extend their play into meaningful academic experiences.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for seeing the potential in my students and investing in their curiosity. You have given us more than just materials—you have given my students the gift of wonder, the confidence to explore, and the joy of learning in a whole new way. We will treasure these resources for years to come, and I know the impact will ripple far beyond our classroom walls. Thank you for being part of our story.","fullyFundedDate":1769177624257,"projectUrl":"project/translucent-treasures-for-bright-minds/9841012/","projectTitle":"Translucent Treasures for Bright Minds!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ruthless","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10276591_orig.png?crop=330,330,x0,y112&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758683195625","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ruthless"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_48648","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":359,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":52,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":31,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":43,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":9,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"18.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":90.0,"schoolId":48648,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Del Lago Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Del Lago Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/saddleback-valley-unified-school-district/del-lago-elementary-school/48648"}
