My students are LOVING everything. As a first year teacher, this has been such a huge help. When I introduced each of them the students were overjoyed. Everything gets played with everyday. I was given a kitchen for my classroom but no food, so having the pretend food was perfect! The students love playing in the kitchen.\r\n\r\nWe also did a fun activity with our Spots book and the different spot characters. Teaching social/emotional skills is essential in TK. This was a great way to demonstrate different emotions. I cannot tell you what a blessing this project has been. I was able to get it funded and delivered before the end of the school year last year. That meant I was able to have everything read for my new class and not have to stress about it over the summer. \r\n Our school provides all supplies for our students, we do not ask them to bring anything. We love doing this and it is so helpful to the families, but it can also be very expensive for the school site and classroom. By getting this project funded I was able to to get enough supplies for my classroom and my partner teacher's classroom. We were able to get the folders we needed for each subject, along with crayons, dry erase markers, page projectors, and glue sticks. One third of my class is already reading at a third grade level! WOW! While I have a wide variety of picture books, I did not have a variety of high interest chapter books to engage these higher readers. The chapter books purchase from this project have been such a great help to further my students' love for reading! The Elephant and Piggie books are also so beneficial to my beginning readers. The simple text gives those beginning readers a feeling of success and shows them that they ARE readers, and they can read books! It was about 60 hours in total. Each year, I question if it is worth the weekends and evenings of work. Then I am encouraged by YOUR support of such a special project. Now each of my students will have an ABC Memories book that documents their foundational year in school.
