During one of our Zoom meetings, I had my class write about what they imagined our classroom would be like. With wide eyes and a big smile, one of my students said, "I imagined lots and lots of books!" My heart sank immediately seeing my empty shelves.
It would be an absolute joy to see the faces of my students light up once they step into our classroom for the first time, and they see the shelves filled with books—but I need your help to make that happen.
These books will help me build my first classroom library. Students will use these books for independent reading every day. If I can get enough books of different levels and themes, my students will be able to "shop" for their own mini-collection of books that they can keep for a week in their bins (which would be a big help since we will be limited with the use of shared materials). After being quarantined since March, it will also help give many of my students, who have limited access to books at home, more printed texts in their hands to help nurture their love for reading.
