Because of you, my class has a brand new alphabet rug, and it has already become the heart of our learning space. When the students first saw it, their faces lit up with excitement—several immediately started pointing out letters they recognized and proudly saying their sounds. We now gather on the rug every day for morning meeting, lessons, and read-alouds. One of my favorite moments is watching students collaborate on the rug during choice time, working together to create cities out of blocks or complete community helper puzzles.\r\n\r\nUsing the alphabet rug, students play movement-based games, practice identifying beginning and ending sounds, and work together on early reading activities. This rug is helping build confidence, cooperation, and a love of learning. I am so grateful that you helped make this possible for my students. Being a Spanish dual-immersion teacher is an immense privilege and a big responsibility to not only teach the language, but to honor the cultures that shape the language. I believe that books are powerful tools that help us understand one another better through stories. I also believe in the power a single book can have in making us feel seen and heard, like when you see someone just like you and suddenly, you are inspired to share those parts of you with the world! These \"mirrors\" are so dear to my heart, and making sure books are offering those experiences to my students is one of my priorities. One of my favorite things with our new books has been seeing a group of my usually reserved students suddenly light up when they learned that the biography they picked up was from a Latina artist that was from Latin America, just like them. They excitedly invited more friends to take a look at the book, and they are all now choosing to use their free time to create their own presentation about singers and artists from Latin America. Seeing a child happily share who they are, where they come from, and the beautiful richness of their lived experience and their family's all thanks to a book is truly priceless.
