Each week, we have chosen a new story to read and act out using the felt pieces. I can see the students are much more engaged and feel more of a part of the story since they get to add pieces to our felt board as we read. This has helped my students focus on who or what the main characters are in the story and identify settings, and, most importantly, sequence the events.\r\n\r\n We spend a whole week reading the same story, but the students don't get bored with it! By the end of the week, students can retell the entire story using only the felt pieces. It's such a fun process to see. Even after the story is complete, students can continue to play with and manipulate the felt stories together. When we have free time to play, I place the felt stories we've completed in the center, and I can see students revisit past stories and still remember or even reenact them.\r\n\r\n I believe the felt stories have helped them recall specific details. The students converse and debate to determine who is remembering correctly. The conversations have been endless, which is an asset in the classroom, helping my young students socialize, take turns, and work together. \r\nYour generous donations have enriched our story times and helped our students become storytellers themselves.
