Thanks to your contribution, this exciting space is now open and thriving—providing our middle school students with an engaging, rewarding, and meaningful experience.\r\n\r\nThe Library Store has quickly become a favorite destination on campus. Stocked with cool and useful school supplies—from colorful pens and notebooks to creative gadgets and personalized items—it offers something every student can look forward to. Even more importantly, everything in the store is purchased using Phoenix Bucks, our school's own positive behavior currency.\r\n\r\nThis system not only encourages academic effort and good citizenship, but it also teaches students about responsibility, goal-setting, and financial literacy in a fun and age-appropriate way. They take great pride in earning Phoenix Bucks and making thoughtful choices when deciding how to spend them. It's been inspiring to watch students light up as they \"shop\" with the rewards they've earned through their hard work and positive behavior.\r\n\r\nThe Library Store has also created a new sense of community, motivation, and school spirit. It's a space where students feel seen, valued, and celebrated—not just for grades, but for character and effort.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in our students and in the kind of learning environment that goes beyond the classroom. They learned how you plate dishes and that is an art form in itself, something others can take pleasure in looking at. Then there's the way that you combine aromas and tastes to create different feelings, in the same way that paintings use colors and form to incite different emotions. By studying culinary arts, our students learned how to appreciate food as an art form. This, in turn, will result in them putting more care into the food they create, and potentially allow for more fulfillment in building literacy and comprehension.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, we were able to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Part of the workshop emphasized the importance of creating delicious dishes that are actually healthy in order to promote nutrition . It's why many restaurants offer vegan options these days. Students learned about different forms of nutrition, such as farm-to-table cooking, how to practice sustainability and environmental responsibility. By act of being farm-to-table, they are able to spread awareness for those important subjects at home with their families.","fullyFundedDate":1728152962188,"projectUrl":"project/cook-it-quick-30-minute-meals-in-the-li/8759919/","projectTitle":"Cook It Quick: 30 Minute Meals in the Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Remi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8946929_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697655347991","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8946929"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_94481","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":160,"numTeachers":14,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":53,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":24,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.3,"schoolId":94481,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Oakland Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Oakland Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/oakland-unified-school-district/west-oakland-middle-school/94481"}
