We use the carpet as our main gathering space for reading, group discussions, and collaborative learning activities. One recent moment that really stood out was during small group math sessions: students gathered on the carpet to receive extra support with addition and subtraction using whiteboards. Being able to sit comfortably together and work closely with me and their peers has helped them build confidence and stay engaged while practicing their skills.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new carpet, their excitement was contagious! Many of them ran over to find their favorite spots, and some even said it made the classroom feel \"more fun\" and \"cozy.\" It's amazing to see how a simple change in our learning environment can spark so much energy and enthusiasm for learning.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll continue to use the carpet space for our writing workshops, reading circles, and science discussions. Right now, the students are working on a collaborative science project about ecosystems, and the carpet has become our \"thinking hub,\" where they brainstorm ideas, plan experiments, and share observations. Students achieved two major outcomes with this book. The first was that they were able to read about indigenous people's history from the perspective of indigenous people. They gained an insight into history and ways of knowing that they otherwise wouldn't have. The second outcome was that they learned how to decode academic text. The dense academic language gave students an opportunity to practice their \"Fixing-Up Clunks\" strategies. We used the materials to create clay figurines to use for small stop-motion videos. It was a lot harder than expected but the kids really enjoyed the project. They were super excited to finally get to use clay that wasn't air dry. Air dry crumbles so easily and it's hard to get them excited when they know there is a very good chance that their art will fall apart. With the modeling clay, it held together much better and was still moveable even after drying! We even had extra clay to use for some small props for the videos. A lot of students decided to make spheres as their \"characters\" and at first I was skeptical but they added so much comedy into something so basic! Thank you so much for the donations!
