Many hands-on activities that promote sensory exploration, creativity, and skill development can also be messy, making access to cleaning materials essential. When teachers have the supplies they need, they can confidently provide enriching experiences without limiting opportunities due to concerns about cleanup. This allows students to fully participate in activities that build independence, communication, motor skills, and confidence.\r\n\r\nHaving an ample supply of cleaning products also provides peace of mind for educators and support staff. Instead of worrying about running out of paper towels, disinfecting wipes, soap, or other essential materials, they can focus their energy on meeting students' individual needs and creating positive learning experiences. Knowing that cleanup can be handled quickly and effectively makes it easier to embrace fun, messy activities that students enjoy while maintaining a clean, healthy, and welcoming classroom environment for everyone.","fullyFundedDate":1697731435620,"projectUrl":"project/clean-and-ready-to-learn/7814316/","projectTitle":"Clean and Ready to Learn!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Deputy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4981179_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y6&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1785194618960","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-deputy"},{"teacherId":4981179,"projectId":6204698,"letterContent":"Having books in our classroom that my students enjoy has made a meaningful impact on their engagement, curiosity, and love of learning. Providing a variety of books that are interesting and accessible to my students encourages them to explore stories, practice communication skills, build early literacy skills, and develop positive relationships with books. When students have books that capture their attention, they are more motivated to participate, interact, and learn.\r\n\r\nThe indestructible books have been especially valuable for some of my learners who are still developing appropriate ways to interact with books. These books can be rolled, twisted, and even chewed, making them a safe and durable option for students who explore materials through sensory input. They allow students to practice holding, looking at, and engaging with books without the worry of damage. These materials help create an inclusive classroom library where every student can participate, explore, and build confidence as they develop important literacy and sensory skills.","fullyFundedDate":1649344118590,"projectUrl":"project/lets-read-through-the-school-year/6204698/","projectTitle":"Let's Read Through The School Year!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Deputy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4981179_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y6&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1785194618960","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-deputy"},{"teacherId":4981179,"projectId":7826595,"letterContent":"Having a variety of seating options in our classroom has made a meaningful impact on my students' ability to learn, participate, and attend to instruction. Each of my students has unique needs, learning styles, and preferences, and providing different seating choices allows them to find the option that helps them feel most comfortable and successful. Whether a student needs a cozy spot to feel secure, a different position to help with focus, or a place that supports their sensory needs, having choices helps create an environment where all students can thrive.\r\n\r\nFlexible seating has been especially valuable as my students continue learning how to sit, attend, and participate during instruction. Giving students the ability to choose a seat that works best for them helps build independence, self-awareness, and confidence. These seating options also provide a supportive space for students to regroup when they need a moment before returning to learning. By honoring their individual needs and providing meaningful choices, we are creating a classroom where every student feels supported, included, and ready to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1701203583700,"projectUrl":"project/learning-to-sit-and-attend/7826595/","projectTitle":"Learning to Sit and Attend!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Deputy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4981179_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y6&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1785194618960","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-deputy"},{"teacherId":4981179,"projectId":7814839,"letterContent":"My students are incredibly sensory-seeking learners who benefit from having a variety of tools available to help them regulate their bodies and stay ready to learn. These supports helped many students feel calmer, more focused, and more comfortable throughout their school day. Having access to appropriate sensory tools gave my students a way to meet their sensory needs while remaining engaged in classroom activities and instruction.\r\n\r\nThe bouncing peanut and trampoline have also made a meaningful impact by providing students with opportunities for movement and regulation. Many of my students need movement input in order to organize their bodies, increase focus, and transition successfully between activities. These resources have created safe and purposeful ways for students to move, reset, and return to learning. This project has helped us build a more inclusive classroom where students are supported in the ways that work best for them, allowing them to participate, communicate, and learn with confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1701230365723,"projectUrl":"project/a-menu-of-sensory-choices/7814839/","projectTitle":"A Menu of Sensory Choices!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Deputy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4981179_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y6&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1785194618960","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-deputy"},{"teacherId":4981179,"projectId":6069981,"letterContent":"My students are creative thinkers who love to explore, build, and see the world in their own unique ways. These materials give my students a way to show their creativity and understanding in ways that may look different from traditional learning activities.\r\n\r\nOur classroom also benefits from having large blocks available in our library area, where students can remain close to our whole group instruction while having something purposeful to do with their hands. For many of my students, movement and hands-on activities help them stay regulated, focused, and ready to participate. This project also includes sensory chews, which are an important support for many of my sensory-seeking students. They have built bridges, towers, and even a \"forest village,\" working together to compare sizes, count pieces, and solve problems as a team. Others have been strengthening their fine-motor skills with tweezers and small balls, turning simple activities into calm, focused challenges. The excitement on their faces when they first saw these materials was unforgettable. Many of our students come from low-income families, and they have never had access to these kinds of learning tools at home. Seeing them handle real wood, use new tools, and explore materials they've never touched before was truly powerful.\r\n\r\nThese resources have opened the door to richer STEM exploration, stronger fine-motor development, and more opportunities for collaborative play. I want to give these young learners the very best start, because the skills they build now—problem-solving, creativity, persistence, and confidence—will support them for life. Our classroom is still in need of a wider variety of fine-motor toys, and the remaining items on DonorsChoose will help us continue providing what they deserve.
