Providing snacks during testing may seem like a small gesture, but for my students, it makes a tremendous difference. Many of them have unique learning styles, and traditional testing environments don't always reflect their strengths. Adding in the pressure and anxiety that often comes with testing, it can be a challenging experience for them.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, students were able to feel more comfortable, regulated, and cared for during these high-stress moments. Having access to snacks helped meet their sensory and emotional needs, allowing them to better focus and show what they truly know. It created a sense of calm and even a bit of joy in a situation that can otherwise feel overwhelming.\r\n\r\nIt has been incredibly powerful to watch them approach testing with more confidence and even moments of excitement. Your kindness gave them not just nourishment, but encouragement and reassurance that they are supported. My students are working on identifying, matching, and producing short vowel sounds through hands-on activities.\r\n\r\nMy students were immediately engaged and excited. The hands-on, colorful materials were very motivating, especially for my students with autism who benefit from visual and tactile learning.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to build on these foundational vowel sound skills by moving into blending and segmenting simple CVC words. We will continue using the tubs to support this by incorporating more structured word-building activities and beginning to connect sounds to reading simple sentences. For my nonverbal students, we will continue integrating AAC supports so they can actively participate in phonics instruction. Ultimately, our goal is to help all students move toward early reading and writing skills in a way that is accessible and meaningful for them.","fullyFundedDate":1764739034171,"projectUrl":"project/a-e-i-o-u-and-you/9844094/","projectTitle":"A-e-i-o-u and You!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Olvera","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9058800_orig.jpg?crop=474,474,x87,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685656331826","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9058800"},{"teacherId":9611538,"projectId":10017163,"letterContent":"It has been incredible to see the students big smiles when they see characters or authors we have read in the past. When the sensory spinning chairs arrived, their faces lit up—they immediately wanted to try them, exploring movement and coordination while staying engaged in learning. The Coogam spelling games have sparked friendly competition and collaboration as students match letters and build words together.
