We started our new novel, Wonder, with the new year. Not only have my students found the story riveting, but the characters are genuine and relatable. My students are easily able to sympathize with the various personalities in the story. Whether they themselves have felt bullied, alone, neglected, or been a friend to someone who was different, they have been able to identify and engage through the different points of view. \r\nIt is a joy for me as a teacher to watch their interest peak over characters and plot twists. A bonus is that the chapters are short, and students don't feel overwhelmed at the thought of reading, instead they feel accomplished. Students are excited to learn what will happen from one page to the next. Class participation is at an all-time high when we read or spend time on our novel; discussions over events, feelings, and talks about what is right and wrong are met with an eagerness that only a good story can bring. Thank you for kindling a love of literature in their hearts.","fullyFundedDate":1743896292054,"projectUrl":"project/reading-is-wonder-ful/8994150/","projectTitle":"Reading is WONDER-ful","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Eevee Engh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6349192"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_97262","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1442,"numTeachers":54,"percentFrplEligible":47,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":34,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":37,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"26.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":86.4,"schoolId":97262,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dorothy McElhinney Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dorothy McElhinney Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/murrieta-valley-unified-school-district/dorothy-mcelhinney-middle-school/97262"}
