For years, I have treid different types of seats in my classroom other than the other traditional chairs. I have tried stability balls. The students bounce on them and pop them with pens, pencils, or other sharp objects. I have tried different types of stools. Small ones but, the students tip them over trying to move around. Tall ones with padded seats but the studetns tear up the padded seats. I have also tried tractor seats but, studetns stayed away because they were too hard. \r\n Last year, 2025-2026, a teacher had office type seating in her room. She said the kids loved it. I asked if the spinning or raising and lowering of the seat was an issue and they said no. So, over the summer I decided to try another type of seating, rather than going back to the traditional hard plastic seats. So, far so good. I will let my studetn sxplain the impact these office seats have had on them. In the spring, students can look back at their early work and see just how far they've come. These mini pencils are the best way to introduce new writers to proper pencil grip. As a younger, newer crew of kids this is right at their developmental age. They are drawing and practicing writing and loving making piles of chalk dust on the playground.
