The students at my school are extremely diverse. Many of their families came to the United States from countries all over the world. A majority of my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds. More than 50% of the students are English Language Learners. Many of the families at our school have been affected by the recession. Some of the family members have recently lost their jobs and/or homes. Every morning, many of my students are extremely enthusiastic when they enter the room! They love to come to school to learn new ideas and concepts. Our class is full of great personalities!! Sharing stories about their families and experiences is so important for our class. During the past two years, our school district has had to make drastic cuts to the budget. As a result, there is very little money for basic school supplies. This does not leave resources for building a classroom library.
