Thankfully, the books you donated appeal to all sorts of children of different gender and background. \r\n\r\nMany of my students enjoy reading, but they don't typically pick up rich literature at first glance. The books you donated help introduce literary elements they are unaccustomed to in their casual at home reading. They are learning about foreshadowing, character development, conflict, tone, mood, and more. The students write about the books they are reading, they discuss elements like setting and plot, and create posters to \"advertise\" the books to future 4th graders. Students enjoy having a comfortable place to sit on the floor while they read rich literature and analyze the text with their friends. \r\nIf you haven't had a chance to sit on these seats, you're missing out. Having back support on the floor is often disregarded with children. We think they can sit criss-cross on the floor indefinitely, but they need support just like adults. My students were instantly thrilled at the knowledge that their classroom library was enhancing. A third of the class, jumped at the opportunity to help with cleaning and organizing all of the books. Another group, couldn't help themselves in rediscovering some beloved books moments after they reappeared from the depths of the previous sorting system. A different group of students, couldn't wrap their head around the true expansiveness of their classroom library now that everything was finding a true home.\r\n\r\nNow, the classroom library is back and operational. Students are excitedly cycling through more books; sharing facts and wonderings from what they're reading with their peers; and, becoming more confident readers. I'm even beginning to notice more of my students taking an ownership of their library space. They are ensuring books are placed in their rightful homes; helping each other navigate the system before asking me for help; and, ensuring the library is clean and organized at the end of each day with minimal reminders/prompting. I'm overjoyed at the outcome and I can't wait to see how else this change will further support my students in the future.\r\n\r\nNone of this would've been possible without your support.
