It was an amazing experience for my students and will be a core memory of what they will remember from 3rd grade.\r\n\r\nIn class we are writing about owls. The class did a lot of research to help them with their writing. Two of the topics they researched were an owls habitat and what they ate. They learned depending on the owl, they eat small rodents like mice and shrew, as well as small birds. This owl dissection gave students the opportunity to see the skeletons of the animals the owl ate. They were able to separate the fur from the bones and identify the bones on a classification worksheet. I had several students say they did not want to touch it because they thought it was gross. Every single one of those student's curiosity got the best of them, and they loved every minute of it. Students were surprised at how big some of the skulls were and how many were in each pellet. \r\n\r\nThis project was such a fantastic hands on learning experience for them.
