My students have extensive support needs, and many are non-verbal and medically fragile, so having materials that are accessible, engaging, and motivating means so much to us. When the new materials arrived, my students were excited to explore them in their own ways. Some reached for the sensory noodles and spiky balls, while others enjoyed relaxing in the bean bag or listening to and playing with the little toy piano. Seeing their smiles and excitement reminded me how something that may seem small can make a big difference in their school day.\r\n\r\nWe are using the wooden puzzles, sorting rings, sensory materials, and piano throughout our day. These resources help us work on important skills such as making choices, reaching and grasping, matching and sorting, fine motor skills, communication, and staying engaged in an activity. The bean bag has also become a special place where students can relax, take a sensory break, and have a comfortable change of position. One of my favorite things is watching a student discover a new material and find their own way to interact with it. For my students, reaching for a preferred item, placing one puzzle piece, activating the piano, or showing us they want \"more\" is something worth celebrating.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue using these materials to help our students become more independent and confident. We will incorporate them into task activities, communication practice, sensory breaks, and choice-making throughout the school day. Progress may look different for each of my students, but every small step matters. Your generosity has given my students more opportunities to participate, communicate, explore, and experience success. Thank you for believing in my students and helping create a classroom where they can learn and grow in ways that are meaningful to them.
