Students participate in read-alouds, partner reading, small-group discussions, and independent reading. I love watching them become excited about books, recommend titles to one another, and talk about their favorite characters and stories. The new texts have added even more variety and choice to our classroom library, which helps every student find something that interests them.\r\n\r\nIt has been especially rewarding to see students eagerly exploring the new books and sharing them with their classmates. As a staple book in my classroom and in 3rd grade, it is so important to build literacy skills by having the book with the student to read along. Seeing the words as they listen helps build fluency and understanding. \r\nStudents read along while listening to the audiobook, which helps with reading and listening skills, reading stamina, and further comprehension skills. We do projects based on the book and have many class discussions to dig deeper into the meaning of the books we read. \r\nMany students have seen the movie for this book in particular, but haven't read the book. They continued to have many discussions concerning the similarities and differences, as well as writing reviews for both! While listening to the book, students didn't want to stop when we ran out of time.
