Because of your generosity, we were able to create a special space where students can explore ASL, learn about Deaf culture, and see different forms of communication represented and celebrated every day.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when they first saw the new materials. They immediately wanted to explore the posters, practice the signs, and learn more. That excitement has continued throughout the year. My students now know more than 50 ASL words, and they are inspired to keep learning more every day! They love practicing signs with one another and asking me to teach them new words.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite parts of this project has been seeing students from my class last year come back into the room. They are always amazed by how much the classroom has changed and how much ASL and Deaf culture are now represented. Seeing their reactions has reminded me that these resources have done so much more than decorate our classroom—they have helped shape a more welcoming, curious, and inclusive classroom culture.\r\n\r\nRight now, we are 24 chapters into our read-aloud, A Song for a Whale, and my students have been hooked since the very first page! As a CODA, or Child of a Deaf Adult, this story is especially meaningful to me, and it has been incredibly special to share it with my students. We have had so many thoughtful conversations about communication, connection, inclusion, Deaf culture, and what it feels like when others do—or do not—make an effort to communicate with you. The resources from this project have helped make those conversations even more meaningful because students can connect what they are reading to the ASL and Deaf culture they see around them every day.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make one of my classroom dreams come true. Your support has given my students much more than materials. You have helped create a space where different ways of communicating are celebrated and where students are genuinely excited to learn more about ASL and Deaf culture.
