They use the comfortable and inviting bean bags, fidget toys, and books daily in our new calming corner. Special moments include when students who normally struggle to talk about their feelings are able to picked up one of the books about emotions and learn through characters that what they are experiencing is normal. After reading, they are able to share what they are feeling with me and this shows just how powerful having the right resources can be for creating trust and openness.\r\n\r\nMany students immediately went to try out the fidgets, while others curled up in the bean bags. Their faces lit up, and I could see how eager they were to explore the space. Right away, they started calling it \"their calming corner,\" which made it clear they felt ownership and comfort in the space.\r\n\r\nWe are continuing to practice social-emotional learning by exploring feelings, self-regulation, and conflict resolution. The calming corner is becoming an important part of this work, giving students a place to use the strategies we practice together.
