The poster paper has already been used for a careers in physics activity where students researched real-world careers connected to physics an presented them to the class.\r\n\r\nStudents were excited to see materials that made the classroom more like a real science space. The mini photogates gave us the opportunity to record accurate real-time speed data in a realistic lab setting. This helped students learn concepts in kinematics and energy and gave them a real-world observation of speed data collection. This also improved the accuracy of our calculations that used the speed data. The balsa wood sticks and cardboard cutters have been continually used for engineering design projects where students build, test and improve structures. For example our earthquake building design exploring seismic waves, and our rollercoaster energy lab. \r\n\r\nMy students were excited and curious when they first got to work with the materials. Many of them had never used equipment like photogates before. The balsa wood and cardboard cutters were put to use immediately and our first project, students had a competition to build the tallest ramp with the most potential energy. \r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue to use the these resources to build on their knowledge. Students take turns having the classroom job of \"sweeping\" which includes using the broom and the Swiffer mop. Students have been enjoying learning how to use the Swiffer (many had not used it before) and it helps prevent sticky messes when we collect recycling across campus. \r\n\r\nSpeaking of recycling! The large trash bags donated through this project were incredibly helpful for collecting and sorting recycling. The bags are large and super durable. We were able to raise enough money to do 2 recipes and buy air dry clay and paint to make ornaments for all the teachers who participate in our recycling program. \r\n\r\nLastly, the dry erase board erasers and spray have been SO instrumental in keeping our mini white boards and large white boards clean. Students use the small white boards daily and having the small erasers at their desks is so helpful. I was able to share some with another special ed teacher since so many came in the package.
