As a 7th grade English teacher, I want my students to have a classroom that feels welcoming, comfortable, and cared for, and your generosity has made a surprisingly big difference. With more than 100 students coming through my classroom each day, keeping our space clean can be a challenge. Our Roomba helps us keep the floors tidy without taking valuable instructional time away from our students.\r\n\r\nMy students were absolutely delighted when they first saw our new classroom helper! They immediately wanted to name it, watch it work, and take turns helping make sure the floor was clear before it started its cleaning routine. Beyond the fun, it has helped my students think more about taking ownership of our shared classroom environment. We are continuing to work on creating a space where everyone feels comfortable learning, and the Roomba has become a small but meaningful part of that effort. These books helped students develop critical literacy skills, including making connections between texts and their own lives, analyzing themes and characters, engaging in meaningful discussions, and strengthening their reading comprehension. The stories also created opportunities for students to explore diverse perspectives while building empathy and cultural understanding.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an interactive experience. Students read independently, discuss ideas with partners and small groups, and reflect on how the themes and experiences in the books connect to their own lives and the world around them. The texts sparked thoughtful conversations and encouraged students to share their personal experiences, making reading both meaningful and relevant.\r\n\r\nThe impact of these books has been remarkable. When surveyed at the end of the semester, students identified these texts as their favorite part of the spring semester. Many students who do not typically see themselves represented in literature were excited to encounter characters and stories that felt familiar and authentic. It was eagerly anticipated for months until finally at the end of January, students began to make their own Pop Art sculpture, after seeing past student sculptures prominently displayed since August. \r\n\r\nStudents greatly enjoyed both the independent and collaborative aspects of designing and building their paper mâché sculptures. Turning simple materials like newspaper and glue into large, vibrant works of art gave them a strong sense of ownership and pride. Watching them eagerly pick up their sculptures the moment they walked into the room each day was a powerful reminder of how invested they had become—and a moment that made me deeply proud as their teacher\r\n\r\nBy the end of the project, our classroom was transformed into a gallery of bold, bright sculptures that reflected each student's unique interests and the remarkable results of two months of sustained effort. One standout piece was my eighth-grade student Thomas's Toblerone sculpture, nearly five feet in length. More than anything, this experience deepened students' understanding of Pop Art while showing them what they are capable of—that they can commit to a long-term process and create something truly substantial from start to finish, a lesson that extends far beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1746541601264,"projectUrl":"project/seeing-the-art-in-the-everyday-pop-art/9077857/","projectTitle":"Seeing The Art In The Everyday: Pop Art Paper Mache!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Purdy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp497891_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1452476896872","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/katherine-purdy"},{"teacherId":9547050,"projectId":9963963,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom.
