My 4 and 5 year olds have the chance to review each letter of the alphabet each day in fun, memorable ways. For example, on W is for Western Day, the kids wore the Straw Cowboy Hats and Western slapbracelets to have a Yee-haw good time. U is for Unicorn was a magical day and the kids loved taking home their Mini Plush Unicorns.\r\n\r\nWe've still got a few days left of school and we'll finish strong with B is for Bubbles where we'll use the Bubble Machine and Bubble Solution as well as A is for Abracadabra where Magic will be the theme for the day with our Churro and the Magician book and Magic Wands!","fullyFundedDate":1770947429963,"projectUrl":"project/cowboys-unicorns-and-truckersoh-my/10046853/","projectTitle":"Cowboys, Unicorns, and Truckers...Oh, My!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bazan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2901063_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x13,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768091506677","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-bazan"},{"teacherId":2901063,"projectId":10033671,"letterContent":"Huge thank you! The bins are being labeled to keep those themes organized and ready for each month.\r\n\r\nThe most used item has probably been the Epson Eco-Tank. My school-issued HP just wasn't reliable. My aide and I use the Eco-Tank every day. After losing our school in the Palisades fire, these new materials have helped create a sense of comfort and excitement for my students. The moment they saw the colorful books, storytelling kits, science tools, and dramatic play materials, their faces lit up with excitement. They immediately began exploring, asking questions, and working together in ways that reminded me how resilient and curious young children can be.\r\n\r\nWe are using the resources every single day. During literacy centers, students eagerly practice letter sounds with the magnetic phonics kit and Elkonin box boards, while our read-aloud books and Rainbow Fish storytelling kit have inspired meaningful conversations about friendship, kindness, and perseverance. In science, the recycling sorting toys, plant model, and farm puzzle have encouraged hands-on exploration and thoughtful discussions about the world around us. One especially memorable moment was watching students use the dramatic play masks and props to retell stories together—they were building oral language, creativity, and confidence all through play. We paper-mached the masks and created farm animals to go along with our farm-themed Open House.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students meaningful opportunities to learn, create, and celebrate together during this important season of rebuilding. These resources have become an important part of both classroom learning and individual support sessions, helping students build skills that extend far beyond academics.\r\n\r\nThese texts are introducing and reinforcing a range of social-emotional learning skills in accessible and developmentally appropriate ways. Through shared reading and guided discussion, students are learning how to identify and name emotions, recognize emotional triggers, and explore healthy coping strategies. The stories also support perspective-taking, helping students understand how different people may experience the same situation in different ways. Themes of resilience, empathy, friendship, problem-solving, and self-regulation are woven throughout the texts, giving students language and structure to better understand their inner world and their relationships with peers.\r\n\r\nIn individual sessions, these journals are especially powerful tools. They are used intentionally to support reflection, build self-awareness, and strengthen self-confidence. Some students benefit from the opportunity to revisit experiences at their own pace, without pressure to respond immediately in group settings. Journals allow them to slow down, make sense of their emotions, and communicate in a way that feels manageable and safe.
