In my 7th-grade creative arts class, the stop-motion project using green screens and lights was a huge hit. It gave students a hands-on way to dive into storytelling, using technology to create their own worlds and characters. What's exciting about the technology is how it opened up a new creative space for students to explore. They got to experiment with lighting, angles, and special effects—tools that they might see in movies but often don't get to try for themselves. It allowed them to be more than just learners; they were creators, making their own mini-films from start to finish.\r\nThe students were especially excited by how they could bring their ideas to life in a way that felt personal and real. Seeing their own work on screen was motivating, and the creative process kept them engaged from start to finish. For some students, this was the first time they felt truly empowered in a project. Whether it was figuring out how to get the right lighting or collaborating with classmates, the experience encouraged them to think critically and work together.\r\nAs for the students who warmed to the technology the most, I noticed that those who often shy away from traditional projects really thrived in this one. The hands-on nature of the project gave them a way to showcase their creativity in a less structured environment, which seemed to boost their confidence and excitement for learning. For these students, it wasn't just about the final product, it was about the journey of making something they could be proud of.","fullyFundedDate":1758757097746,"projectUrl":"project/lights-camera-learn/9729077/","projectTitle":"Lights, Camera, Learn!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Keith Harris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10269335_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758644528879","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10269335"},{"teacherId":9635818,"projectId":8590314,"letterContent":"I am so appreciative for your generosity in funding this project for my Grade 8 students. The supplies and creative tools went to awesome use! We spent a month and a half on an extensive Poetry unit, learning different writing styles, experimenting with figurative language, reading and analyzing famous poems, and spending time creating their own, unique pieces of writing. The confidence of my students grew as well. Students who 'hated' writing before this unit became blossoming poets! They knew the culminating project was a compilation of all the poems they wrote during the unit. That's when the impact of your donations was truly felt!\r\n\r\nAs we began working on our Poetry Bare Books, I shared the plethora of new supplies with them. They were so stoked and thrilled to get started! A collection of colored Sharpies, four-colored pens, lettered stickers, stencils for drawing, and fancy felt markers gave my students the opportunity to really personalize their projects. Knowing that decoration and personalization was part of the project grade, in addition to compiling their poems, these supplies were shared across all five of my Grade 8 ELA classes. They were able to provide unique chances for self-expression and creative display. Even supplies like boxes of Kleenex (used for organizing the usage of paint) and granola bars (eaten for sustenance during long class times) were utilized!\r\n\r\nNext steps will include ways to incorporate these wonderful resources in future projects. During our next unit (the class reading of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451), the 4 colored pens will be used for annotating in individuals books (color-coordinated writing of thoughts in the margins)! We have an upcoming assessment for the book called a Blackout poem, and the black Sharpies will be put to good use.\r\n\r\nWe are so thankful for a resource like Donors Choose, and for generous folk like yourself, for contributing so greatly, impacting my Grade 8 Students' moments of creativity.","fullyFundedDate":1729727600183,"projectUrl":"project/express-yourself-creative-classroom-to/8590314/","projectTitle":"Express Yourself - Creative Classroom Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. G","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9635818_orig.jpg?crop=3022,3022,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723082393455","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9635818"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_102214","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":520,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":67,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 6","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":83.6,"schoolId":102214,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Larchmont Charter School - Selma on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Larchmont Charter School - Selma","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/larchmont-charter-school-west-hollywood-2/102214"}
