They were excited to create a n animal with their red tangrams. Most of them had never seen tangrams before and were eager to create different designs. They had to pull yarn through the small hole punched hole in order to create the mane. Some had difficulty, but they persevered. \r\nThey did a very good job cutting an ear for their horse. My first graders were so excited to use new glowing crayons. Most students were able to read their fortune and those that were not able to asked for help from those students that could reads them. My students enjoyed having tea with Moon Pie. some of my students had never had tea and Moon Pie. It was a special treat for them. \r\nThey were in awe when receiving the red envelope. They could feel the coin inside and were excited to open the envelopes. When they saw the yoyo, they asked how it worked. I demonstrated how the yo-yo worked and they asked so many questions about how it was possible to go back to the beginning. It was a fun filled day with so much learning and working. First, they made their crown that they proudly wore throughout the day. Then, they made their necklace, which was an activity of perseverance. Afterwards they did exercises for 100 seconds and colored their bookmarks. It took a while. They then made a portrait of themselves at 100 years old and wrote about what they will be doing at that age. Lastly, we presented their certificates, stickers and pencils. They were so excited to make their gingerbread houses and take them home! \r\nThe snowball game allowed for them to have fun while practicing their gross motor skills. \r\nWhile making the gingerbread house, they had to measure the amount of icing they needed to have their graham crackers stand up. They also had to spread enough on the candies , so that they adhered to the house. My first graders use the chart paper in group work as well. \r\nThe mini flashlights are used in the second semester as a Fun Friday activity of reading in the dark. They really enjoy having fun with the materials. The first thing they did was choose a spot to read and enjoy a book. We turned off some lights and they were able to choose a book and make themselves comfortable. My first grade students have been using the space when they enter the classroom after recess or after lunch recess. They love sitting next to their friends during our independent work time or collaborating with peers on fun projects. The stools have also been put to great use during district testing and parent conferences.
