My students loved observing live insects to learn about life cycles. How many people get the experience of watching tiny turquoise eggs turn into little black caterpillars and watch them grow and transform into butterflies? It was a wonderful experience. Each student was able to observe their own two caterpillars grow and turn into chrysalises at their desks. I even had enough caterpillars to share with two other classes. They were able to observe the life cycle come full circle when the butterflies laid more turquoise eggs. \r\nMy students also had the experience of observing mealworms turn into pupas, and then into a darkling beetle. They were fascinated that the beetles were beige when they emerged from the pupa but soon turned to dark brown. The third insect we got to observe were ladybugs. They started off as tiny larvae that look nothing like a ladybug, turned into a pupa and then a ladybug. The ones we had were more of an orange color that red like we usually think of ladybugs. In fact, ladybugs can be a variety of different colors around the world. Thank you again for helping me give my students the chance to learn about life cycles by observing live insects.","fullyFundedDate":1772517205947,"projectUrl":"project/life-cycles-come-alive/10102142/","projectTitle":"Life Cycles Come Alive!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Valdez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp304590_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1511886917361","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/melissa-valdez"},{"teacherId":8562754,"projectId":9768071,"letterContent":"Writing is an important part of sharing experiences, fostering language, supporting social emotional development, and building confidence.
