When the students first found out that I was creating the donors choose project for a food pantry many of them did not know what to expect or where the food would come from but upon seeing the boxes arrive and the pantry stacked they were excited and grateful. \r\nNot only were they grateful to have access to the food, they were also inspired to help in any way that they could. They were moved that I genuinely care about their wellbeing, and I reached out to the community to support them like they were my own-because, to me they are.\r\nMy next steps include creating another project that will secure food for the remainder of the semester. I know this is something that I cannot continuously do throughout the year but I want to model for them that you can make a difference no matter how big or small. Some of my kids will remember this years from now and think that they too can help someone and/or their community when the time comes. With that said, I just want to say thank you again for allowing me to be a model for my students and I hope that they learn that we are in this together and it takes a village to raise a child.","fullyFundedDate":1762474391921,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-food-pantry/9864692/","projectTitle":"Classroom Food Pantry","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fleming","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1285874_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762230707343","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/each1teach1"},{"teacherId":10335778,"projectId":9864673,"letterContent":"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your kind donation. On a personal level, I have felt overwhelmed with sadness when I contemplate how to support my students through these tumultuous times. I do the best I can, but I can't do it all, and so I am so grateful for your partnership with me to care for my students. Thank you for being my village so I can be the village for my school community. \r\n\r\nStudents were beyond excited about the classroom pantry. We all know teens love to eat, and some of them don't have enough to eat at home, even if they didn't have a teen-sized appetite. I asked students to share their reflections on how the classroom pantry has benefitted them, and there were some common themes. Students shared that having a classroom pantry improved their focus, productivity, and willingness to learn. I had hoped for those outcomes, but students also shared that the classroom pantry helped them look forward to class, boosted their mood, and comforted them. \r\n\r\nThroughout this process, I've learned even more about the needs of my students--for hygiene products, fresh fruit, or support while they experience homelessness. The needs are real and I never know the entirety of what each of my students experiences. So, thank you for easing the day for my students with the simple act of a snack. And if you're willing and able, I will be posting another project soon to help ease my students through the winter season.","fullyFundedDate":1761938196079,"projectUrl":"project/food-before-focus/9864673/","projectTitle":"Food Before Focus","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Heinsen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10335778_orig.jpg?crop=530,530,x133,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761754813091","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10335778"},{"teacherId":8081711,"projectId":8597069,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for taking the time and providing my students with such an empowering book. Not only have my bilingual students asked to borrow it to read it to their siblings, but I have also had non-native students see it in my bookcase and have read it in their free time. Because the book is in English, my non-native students have seen it as motivational for their little brothers and sisters who are in dual-language programs or are thinking of learning a second language. My students are seeing the power of being multi-lingual!\r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for providing us with this short but powerful book. It has made an incredible impact in my class. I know it's easy to to think that these donations do not change lives, but I want to let you know that over 100 students have had access to this book and I even have students asking to keep it. Again, thank you so much for funding my project and I truly am grateful on behalf of all of my students, both Native and Non-Native.","fullyFundedDate":1733495149845,"projectUrl":"project/a-love-of-learning-begins-by-loving-to-r/8597069/","projectTitle":"A Love of Learning Begins by Loving to Read","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zuniga-Lee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8081711_orig.jpg?crop=1980,1980,x0,y435&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723134440965","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8081711"},{"teacherId":9764301,"projectId":8802743,"letterContent":"My students are very grateful for the generous donation you've provided. All of my 240 freshmen students were extremely excited to work on this project which guided them into SMART goal setting and having big dreams about their prospected perfect future lives. Some students were a little challenged in the beginning, but having the colorful products to choose and use for their project encouraged them especially when they started to present, display, and proudly share their future selfies in the most awesome moments of their excellent future lives. Sharing the happiest possible moments and visualizing themselves in those instances were a perfect way for them to create beautiful and meaningful inspiration boards.\r\nAs an undying optimist teacher at heart, I've always believed that the American Dream is always alive and well. Thanks to your partnership, my students were able to demonstrate once again that it is wonderful to have the American Dream in this great land of endless opportunities.\r\nMy students and I cannot thank you enough for your valuable contribution to us and the future of our beautiful country.","fullyFundedDate":1727059545933,"projectUrl":"project/mental-health-project-on-happiness/8802743/","projectTitle":"Mental Health Project on Happiness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Seyhun","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9764301"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7633","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1378,"numTeachers":63,"percentFrplEligible":79,"percentAsian":15,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":57,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":79.3,"schoolId":7633,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Carson High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Carson High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/carson-high-school/7633"}
