My high school aged students are energetic, intelligent, critical thinkers who live in a high-poverty area. More than 97 percent are eligible for free school meals, and sadly some are currently homeless. My students don't always have the needed resources available to them since their families are focused on keeping a roof over their heads and food in their bellies.
