I typically see students individually or in small groups and they immediately have been drawn to the drums when they come in. I allow time for students to explore and experiment with the sounds they can make and I can see their mood immediately elevate as they plan. Tension and anxiety slowly gets replaced with delight, joy, focus, and inspiration. They see the songbook nearby and ask to try a song. Students that ordinarily get frustrated and give up quickly, seem to be able to have the motivation to try over and over again with the drum, until they get the song right. Its inspiring to see what they are capable of, and see the impact on their nervous system and mental state. Additionally, the noise cancelling headphones have been loaned to students i work with in a SpEd class that have sensitivity to loud noises, and the headphones help them feel calm and safe when things get loud. It has reduced their need to leave the class when overwhelmed. The bead supplies have been wonderful for using for \"emotion thermometer\" bracelet making during class presentations. The students love them and use them. Other beads are regularly used for bracelet making while talking and connecting during small groups. It helps the girls feel more comfortable relaxed when discussing hard topics. Students earn points through their effort, positive behavior, and academic progress, and use those points to purchase items from the class store. This has become part of our weekly routine and gives students a clear goal to work toward.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new items, they were excited and immediately more motivated. Even students who typically struggle were eager to participate and earn points. It also encouraged teamwork, as students began reminding each other to stay on task and make good choices.\r\n\r\nSince implementing the store, I have seen stronger engagement, improved behavior, and more consistent effort across the class. Students are taking more ownership of their learning and working toward goals.\r\n\r\nNext, we will connect the store more directly to academics. Students will earn points for mastering multiplication facts, improving on i-Ready, and showing strong effort during lessons. My students learned basic ballet positions and choreography. This experience helped build confidence, teamwork, and self-expression.
