It was a hands-on way to connect technology to storytelling and creativity, and it sparked a whole new level of engagement in the classroom.\r\n\r\nWhat excited the students most was realizing they could capture and manipulate a series of still photos to create moving stories. Several students became especially interested and have already signed up to join our school Yearbook team next year—something they hadn't considered before this project. The students loved getting a chance to read them and choose their favorite. Two of the books were historical fiction this year, which is one of the students' favorite genres. The third book was realistic fiction that dealt with a school shooting, so it was very timely.\r\nThe historical fiction titles both dealt with timely issues as well - Japanese Internment Camps and Russia at the time of the Chernobyl disaster. They have been using these materials to create a variety of exciting art projects. Recently, we've been working on Notan art, which explores the balance of light and dark shapes, and oil pastel sugar skulls to celebrate Day of the Dead. We've also tackled two-point perspective cityscapes, which has allowed my students to dive deeper into understanding geometry and space in art.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new supplies, their faces lit up with excitement! They were thrilled to have such vibrant colors and quality materials to bring their artistic visions to life. It was such a special moment seeing them excited to try new techniques and challenge themselves in their artwork.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the next step for my students is to apply the skills they've learned in these projects to create their own personal art pieces.
