I have found that they treat them well and they try harder to do good work inside them. I will not be using these notebooks for a short while, until the students start to understand the goals of their use. Because of this, I am going to include some pictures of the results I was getting from students at the end of last year. You should notice the work is a pretty good quality by the time we learned to use our nice things in great ways. I didn't keep the best ones that were done, but my photos will reflect some of the middle of the line effort. \r\nI really appreciate you giving us the chance to have nice things. Since the return from Covid much of the department has also turned over and are new teachers are mostly fresh out of college and very energetic. This was the perfect time to get those LabQuests. \r\n\r\nSince receiving the LabQuests we've begun the process of training our teachers on how to use them with the Chromebooks. Students are excited and want to actually focus on science instead of their phones. I'm sure the excitement will continue to build. The Lab Quests have either made their way or are ready to make their way into every single science subject taught. Physics and Physical Science can use the motion detectors and light sensors now. Chemistry, Biology and AP Environmental Studies are using the O2, CO2, and NO3 meters, colorimeters, temperature probes, pH meters, and more. You can feel the excitement for the 2025-26 school year. Students followed a video along with my directions and were able to build from scratch their own rockets. I could see students build on their engineering skills and see their excitement in knowing they would be able to fly their own rockets. Labs are very hard to come by in my school, especially if we don't fund them ourselves and so to have students be able to create and do science, I believe is what makes science so fun. I hope that this project not only teaches them the real world applications of Newtons laws of motion but also gets them interest in studying science as a career.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials and boxes, I saw interest in students who normally were quiet or did not care much for their grades. Seeing them get so excited to customize and launch their rockets made me as well get excited to teach. It reminds me why I love teaching science because of the curiosity and fun applications it gives. This was essentially their end of the unit project so after this they will move with a better understanding of their energy unit which I can always refer to their rockets as an example. The rug and bookshelf make this part of the classroom look cozy and inviting. This was a great, hands-on bonding experience for us all, and we couldn't wait to fill the shelves afterwards. My students are now much more motivated to pick a book and read. I even have students from other special education classes in our building come to my classroom and pick a book to read. One student came to our classroom and was a celebrity reader.\r\n\r\nHaving a variety of graphic novels and popular books the students are drawn to has heavily impacted the students' motivation to pick up a book and read. Using these resources helps me meet the needs of my students and make progress towards their IEP goals. I have students who use the resources to strengthen their fine motor skills and other students who use the materials to make visual connections to the content I teach in class. Many of the resources support kinesthetics in the class. The money magnets allow for movement in class, which helps the students remain engaged and motivated. This entails questions that are related to what they are learning but it also gives me a chance to get to know my students better. For example, over the break I had my students write what they did and then shared our experiences. These moments are great because they allow me to know my students better as well as each other. They also get to learn more about me as well.\r\n\r\nI also have students play fun games to allow them to get to know each other and socialize. One game that I ordered has students throw an inflatable ball and where ever they're right thumb lands they have to answer the question. It's both fun and acts as a great ice breaker. Students also get to know they're peers and share about themselves.\r\n\r\nThe students were very happy to have journals because many don't have the resources to buy one and I'm glad that we can provide.
