While the prints do take longer (every color change takes extra time), our students can now imagine and print things in more than one color.\r\nThis new printer also has a larger print bed, so we are not restricted so a very small print area. But the one thing that really opens eyes is 3D printing... When our students get their first project (just making a simple key fob), they are very excited, but when they see the printer printing their work... eyes pop, mouths drop, and the excitement is palpable.\r\nThe 3D printers are great, but the thing that makes them able to be used is the printer filament. Without the filament, the printers would just sit there, idle, and taking up space. This project was for the filament needed to keep us printing (and keep those eyes popping out). The first level of excitement for me was the better of the two: excitement for the tracks that, along with Lego cars, would be something to build and play with. We spend so much time looking at high school students and worrying about preparing them for the adult world we forget to often they are not part of that world yet and are in fact still children. Let me start by commenting on how amazing this lab was. I love doing hand on activities in class, especially where students get to build something that is then put into motion.\r\n\r\nFor this pop pop boat lab, the best part is where our students get to see their boats start to move. This can take a little bit of time (two or so minutes in come cases) and you can see that their patience is starting to wear thin. BUT then their boat starts to move. And them it picks up speed. And the shear delight that you can see in their eyes, makes the waiting so worth it. I absolutely adore this project, and the students had a great time learning about 3d printing, mold making, and (of course) chocolate, while also have a chance to tell about themselves. Having a chocolate bar that they could eat (or take home) just adds to fun. Plus, the food safe molds are re-useable, so they can take them home, and make bars in their own kitchen.\r\nWhen this project was introduced, many students were hesitant on how to do showcase themselves in a bar of chocolate, but you can not deny the very delicious results. It is always cool to see the smiles on their faces when they see their 3d prints, but it was truly amazing to see the smiles when they unmolded their chocolate bars. \r\nThank you, again, for giving these supplies to our students so they could do the \"My Life In Chocolate\" project.
